85 Jun 25 Reply Mike, I very much agree; I should have cropped the third building. I decided to do that and ended up cropping to just the right-most dome, and centering it in the picture. I think it has a better composition, and is more about the flag (while I still have the city skyline in the background) Jun 27th
85 Jun 25 Comment Hi Pete! Typically, I have shot all three domes. I posted one here in December of 2022, but even that one is not as symmetrical as it should have been. Here I was looking for a little different angle. I have to be careful with shooting just 2 domes though... from the air they look a little too much like breasts (ha ha!... it's a little naughty , but I've been trying to think of a way to enhance that effect and make it obvious that it was intentional. I can't think of a way to do this without using a little generative AI though). Jun 7th
85 Jun 25 Reply I currently don't have an ND filter for my drone, but I think I will get a couple of them and experiment to see just how much I can darken the view and still get a nice, sharp image! It would be good knowledge to have under my belt! Jun 7th
85 Jun 25 Comment I love the idea of adding a starry sky to this image. I do think an earlier shot of the park would have been better though... when there was a little more light, so you could see more details and identify what you are seeing.

Also, I like that the horizon and hills are clearly defined in the original, and I think if you add a slight light gradient to the starry sky at the horizon, it would look a little more natural. Currently, you seem to have blocked out the hills in the background on the right side, and faded the horizon on the left. I think it is worth trying to save the original horizon lines.

85 Jun 25 Comment Hi Lou. You found the spot! One of my favorite locations! As Pete mentioned, it looks like you have a greater dynamic range than your drone camera could record, so the easy fix is to bracket the shots. I do that most of the time anyway and end up with a gazillion shots, but as Pete mentioned, storage space is cheap, and images are easy to delete if you dare (I tend to keep almost all of mine)

I think your processing is very good considering the blown-out areas in the sky. I do think there is too much color difference between the top of Factory Butte and the shadowed areas below it. It looks a little too gray to me, and not very natural-looking. I would try to warm up the rest of the mountain and the foreground a little more. Good job with the sharpening in the foreground!

85 Jun 25 Comment Hi Pete. Another beautiful image! I think the composition is fine... the ravine has a branch on the left side which balances out the mountain being a little on the right. I do think you are on the verge of having some blown-out areas on the snow though, but it might just be the lower resolution and upload. Overall, another really good shot! Jun 7th
85 Jun 25 Comment Oh my, Lisa. Lovely picture! And I didn't know you were in my area... you should have contacted me, and we could have gone together to shoot! (I've been wanting to scout the area anyway... there is a great location to get a moonrise shot from the ground quite a ways away, and I've wanted to investigate exactly where it is)

Yes, I have shot it many times! One of my favorite autumn pictures is of this cathedral (I posted it to this group in November 2023)

But the first thing I thought of when I saw this picture was all the signs around the cathedral grounds that specifically say no drones! Good thing all you got was an admonishment! There is a parking area near a trail that is just off the grounds that I launched from (but I didn't get this close... I was a little concerned about the battery power I had left)

Did you fly the drone and shoot around to the left? At that height, I think you would have been able to see Milwaukee in the background, although it looks like you might have been affected somewhat by the haze from the Canadian fires that we are encountering again this year (makes good sunsets, but not so good for the lungs).

I agree with Pete about the building in the foreground. If you are brave, you could also crop part way, and then clone in some trees at the bottom. Trees are pretty easy to clone, and not so disruptive of the actual scene (for the picture I posted in Nov 2023, I have since cloned in some trees to cover the distracting grass area near the middle of the picture). Also, I would recommend centering the cathedral more in the picture.

85 Jun 25 Comment Hi Alex. I love the composition of this photo. The waterfall is well placed in the image, and the shadows of the trees in the foreground even provide leading lines to the main subject. It is wonderful that drones can get into a position to best capture such compositions, but waterfalls are very difficult to photograph with a drone because the flowing water needs a longer exposure. They make ND filters for drones to enable longer exposures, but I have often wondered if the drones can hold still long enough to make sharp images while using them.

Both the clouds and some of the spots of water in this image are blown out and have lost all detail. It needs to be taken at a different time of day for a softer effect and better color, perhaps when the sun is at a lower angle and shining on the waterfall and rock wall. The harsh light makes the rocks look a little crunchy, and perhaps the processing has enhanced that.
