Yes, I was torn about losing the sky. That's why I cropped it like that in the beginning. But I think the vertical aspect ratio preserves enough of the sky to get the point across. Still, I would love to have saved more of the sky.
Thanks, Mike. |

Thank you, Pete. A good suggestion! I agree, the vertical aspect ratio is better. But I think the church is a little too close to the left side, especially since the church is facing that way (I kind of wish it was facing to the right, but if I had moved the drone to the left and turned it right, the sun would have been in a different location).
I took your idea and cropped it myself. At first, I put the steeple in the center, but I think it balances with the sun better if I had it a little left of center. |

I love the lights and the colors in the image. I'm a little bothered by the composition, but I'm not sure what would make it better. I like the blue sky, so I wouldn't crop very much of that out (perhaps a little), and I really like the waves on the right, so I wouldn't crop them away either. I think the thing that bothers me is that the lit scene is all in the lower left quadrant of the image, and it is too close to the edge. I think it perhaps needs more dark space on the left and bottom to balance out the picture. I'm not sure if the part of the town to the left of the picture is darker, but I think if it was, perhaps a bit more should have been included. |

I'm sorry, I tried to find something I like about this photo, but there isn't a lot I can say. The composition does not lead my eye in an interesting path through the picture, and the end result just looks overprocessed and false. For me, the sky replacement doesn't fit the scene very well and the sky reflection on the water doesn't match.
I think you could have gotten a good picture from this location if you had flown in closer to the river and rocks in the center right. I see a bit of a reflection there, and the river flowing through the hills might have made a good leading line. It probably would have needed to be taken at a time of day when there was better light though (An early-day or late-day shot when there was red in the sky to match the red rocks might have made a wow picture) |

Great subject and a great composition. I like how the pier/walkway comes at a diagonal out of the lower left. It has some lovely late-day colors, and the sky is beautiful. The lighthouse, however, doesn't seem to have a sharp focus, nor does the pier. And it seems to be a little dark and overprocessed. Perhaps it was done in this way for artistic reasons, but I'm sorry, it doesn't work for me. I do like the red bars along the edges of the pier though. |

I like the composition in this image, although it is tilted a little bit to the right. The colors are nice, but the image seems to be a bit flat. I would try darkening down the upper half of the picture a bit to even out the tones and increase contrast on the building (I don't recommend increasing the contrast on the hills because they are at a distance and should be a bit hazy). The darker water at the bottom is good, but you also might want to lighten and perhaps saturate the reflection a little so it is more obvious, for it is a lovely part of the picture! I would also remove the white dots (buoys). |

I like drone pictures taken from above in the snow, and I like the lines in the snow made from the tracks in this image. The snowmobile, however, is too small to be a significant part of the picture, and I probably wouldn't have noticed it had you not mentioned it, especially with the other small trees being spots in the image. I wonder how this image would have looked if you had positioned the drone just above the trees so the snowmobile was larger in the picture. |
