Group Round C/R Comment Date Image
85 Jun 24 Reply I did take several shots at different angles as I flew around the boat. Here is one where the sun does not line up with the boat. I didn't choose this one because I didn't like the side view of the boat as much, but I do like where the sun is better. Jun 10th
85 Jun 24 Reply I think it would be a very different picture. Covering the sides to see how it would look makes me think it wouldn't be a great picture. If it was a beautiful or interesting boat, then perhaps so. But I think most of the impact of this image is the negative space that gives it a feeling of being all alone on a big body of water and coming home at the end of the day. Jun 10th
85 Jun 24 Comment This image captures the essence of California. Well done! I like the processing, Darkening down the image is good and better expresses the color of the hills. But I would recommend trying to lighten the center of the photo back up a little bit in the area around the hill and the buildings (just a smidge). That will keep the viewer's eye there as they follow the leading line up to that area.

I like the southern view too, with the double leading lines of the road and the river.

85 Jun 24 Comment Certainly a beautiful scene. The star of the show in this image is the clouds, and the ocean with the beach makes nice supporting characters! You did a nice job with bringing out the blue in the sky. I would even try for a little more contrast in the clouds themselves (but try and keep them soft. Increased contrast can make them look harsh). The others are right about the yellow grass in the lower left corner, it is trying to steal the show. The detail in what appears to be a path in the lower left corner draws my attention and keeps it too long. I would darken down that whole area (using a luminosity mask, you can target darkening just the lighter-colored grass). Since the image is quite square, you could also try cropping a little of it off on the bottom to a more landscape aspect ratio. That would solve the problem with the eye trying to figure out where the path goes, but you don't want to lose too much of the beach.

I wish I had scenes like this nearby! Lake Michigan is just boring in comparison (can you tell I miss the ocean? Ha ha!)

85 Jun 24 Comment Lovely image! I like them both, but I think you made the right choice. Flipping back and forth between them I see the higher horizon has much more impact with the sun higher in the sky and the detail in the vast ocean. The clouds in the other shot are certainly nice though. Nice capture! Jun 9th
85 Jun 24 Comment Another great Iceland shot. It makes me want to go back there! It has a very good composition and the shadow details have been nicely lifted. I would suggest using a bit of a vignette on the image to keep the viewer's eye moving around the center of the image. The detail in the rocks in the lower right is nice, so perhaps only using the vignette close to the edge of the picture. The color of the water is nice and I love the reflection of the clouds there. 85 Jun 24 Comment Another great image, and how brave to shoot it in such high winds! Great that you got 5 shots for an exposure blend when the drone probably had a bit of trouble staying still.

I don't have a problem with the sky and wouldn't have paid it any mind if it hadn't been mentioned. It actually provides some interest in what would be an otherwise boring sky. I like the color adjustments, and the shadows have been brought out very nicely to show the detail.

85 Jun 24 Comment A well-exposed documentary image. I'm not sure the composition tells a very good story, perhaps lower down, as mentioned by Alex, would be better. The story it tells is in the front of the building... the words and colors on the storefront. But those are not a major part of this image, and the wires and outbuilding in the top part of the image serve as a distraction. Jun 8th
85 Jun 24 Reply Thank you, Alex. You make a good point, and I think you are right. It might be easy to shift the sky to the right so the boat appears to be headed toward the sun. If I get time, I might play around with that! Thanks for the suggestion. Jun 5th
85 Jun 24 Reply Thank you, Lou. I think this image is a good example of how an image captured by the camera usually does not match what you see when taking the shot. I saw a brilliant sunset while out there, but they didn't come across in the straight-out-of-camera image. Jun 5th
