Although I agree, I like the close-up of the tank too, I do like the wide landscape shot. But yes, the tank is blending too much with the mountain behind it. Moving the drone a little to the right would have put it in front of the blue sky, where it would stand out very nicely. Moving the drone a little to the left and down a bit, and it would have been in front of the pink sky. It might not work being in the center of the landscape, but I think you could have worked the colors that somewhat matched! Also, that angle might have put the tank right at the center of the "V" created by the rows descending away from the tank.
But overall, a very good image! |

I like how you "broke the rules" in this image and placed the rock right in the center. Perhaps Pete is right about showing more detail in the rock, but I like all the white water in the image. It is the main attraction, IMO. I'm not sure how I feel about the brightly colored shoreline in the upper corner. It seems to be a bit distracting. Perhaps darken it down a bit?

Fun shot! I like the symmetry in this image. And the fact that you captured it with the fall colors makes it even better. I like Pete's idea about moving the "x" off-center. If you could have captured even more of the fall foliage that way, it would have made it even better! |

Great shot, Lou. I agree with Pete that it would be nice to have the entire cone in the image, but it is still a good composition. I have shots of this volcano from ground level, covered with snow, and I'm jealous of the drone shots! :) If I ever go back to Iceland, I'm definitely taking my drone!!

Ah... my first thought when I saw this was that it was Factory Butte (which holds a special place in my heart because it was my first drone photoshoot, and the image was immediately published in LPMagazine!). I didn't know this mesa was there, but I should have recognized right away that it wasn't Factory Butte because of the wall behind it. The whole area around Capitol Reef National Park is so amazing to photograph!
This image is beautiful! I love the cloud patterns! I agree with Don about the color, the mesa needs a tinge more red. It looks a little greenish to me. But other than that, very nice processing! |

If you try to photograph the drone in front of a full moon you should do it before the moon gets very high in the sky, while there is still some ambient light, or else the drone will just be a silhouette. Better yet, photograph it as the moon rises the day before so there is more ambient light... as you mentioned, Dec 25, when the moon looks full at 98.8% where you live.
I think the drone was about a quarter mile away (about 1,300 feet)
The sky is pretty much as it looked. It was a daytime shot. Perhaps the image needs a little darker exposure on the moon too. |

Well, for full disclosure, I did a bit of a focus stack here. At 500 mm, I could not get both sharply focused. I moved the drone much further away hoping to make the problem go away, but I still could not get both in acceptable focus, even with a very small aperture. I tried focusing between them, but that only made both look out of focus. Darn long lenses! |

Funny you should mention that... I was just listening to a video the other day about what it takes to fly the Ingenuity helicopter on Mars. Its rotors have to spin very very fast because of the thin atmosphere (2400 rpm at full speed, as opposed to a helicopter rotor normally spinning at between 225 to 500 rpm).
Thanks for the compliments. |

Thanks, Alex. I'm not sure what the elevation was. Lightroom says the altitude for that image was 603 feet, but Photopills says the altitude in that area is a little over 700 feet, so... go figure, guess it was flying underground!! I would guess I was about 200 feet up though.
I didn't start out using a tripod, but realized I needed to set it up just to have somewhere to set my camera. I had a big rock where I set the controller down while operating the camera, but much of the time I needed to operate both. |

Hi Lisa,
Interesting shot. I would recommend not cropping quite so much off the bottom. The graffiti there is an important part of the story. But I understand wanting to get rid of the shadow and the metal bin, perhaps you could remove them with the Remove tool in Photoshop, and leave the graffiti intact. Not sure how you embedded the video (send you the link along with the picture?). |
