The performer was originally from LA before moving to BC so that was his excuse. Being in Ottawa it probably should have been a sens jersey

Great image Ed. I think you have capture the notion of at least some of the youth understand. The Canadian Air Cadets have done a superb job of instilling this in generations who may not even have grandfathers who served in the WW. A simple photo, well composed, that tells the complete story. |

Street photographer Gary Winogrand said the following, "The world isn't tidy, it's a mess. I don't try to make it neat." I think you have captured life as it is, a mess.I think much of the power of this image, beyond capturing local culture off the beaten bath, are the rays of the light. They draw me and then my eyes explore the rest of the photo then come right back to those rays.I am not sure that you could reduce this without losing the overall impact. I like this photo "as is." I need to learn your research techniques so I don't end up with the postcard shot. Your research as resulted in a unique image.

I like the image for the same reasons stated. The non-verbal, cross generational communication is strong in the image. It also brings a smile to the viewer as you can see the emotions of happiness and curiosity captured. |

Sally, like Isaac I think much of the strength of this photo comes from the look on the face. A person happy at work almost a rarity in our culture. I like the modifications Isaac did as well. I also darkened the background and lightened the face. To me, it seems to focus on the artist. Just thoughts on an already fine image

Love the image. The freezing of the knives and the performers face with the high shutter speed shows the intensity of the even as does the great depth of field. The tight crop to the opening and the performer keeps the viewer focused. One of the first things that struck me was the colour coherence of the red. The performer, the knife handles, the stand, the props, even in the background and to some extent the performer's hair. The low pov with respect to the performer somehow seem to elevate her to even greater heights.
