62 Jul 22 Comment Israel, I can see you choose a difficult type of photography to practise (I did it many times), which is very useful. I prefer the black and white version because the differences in colour temperatures tend to be tiring, almost distractive.
In my opinion, you got too much negative space by trying to show the ceiling over the performers (unless this photograph goes in the middle of a newspaper and that space is used for the text).

62 Jul 22 Comment Bob, when I look to your image one word comes to my mind: maternity.
I consider your black and white version of the photograph is way more interesting than the original.

62 Jul 22 Comment Emil, I believe the image benefits from the black and white treatment and removing the partial house was a good move.
I can observe some halo around the flag, but except this I have nothing to point out.

62 Jul 22 Comment LuAnn, I like the atmosphere of the image and I can see an interesting use of the rule of thirds, as well as the use of the curve line of the alley as leading line to bench.
What bugs me is the shape and the density of the vignette - in my opinion the black area is too strong on the left side. I find Pete's version interesting, but I'd place the spotlight on the bench and I'd reduce the density on the left side at the same level as the right side.

62 Jul 22 Comment Pete, I see the image is having an interesting leading line created by the finger and continued by the blade; the light also helps to focus on the subject.
From what I see, the post-production generates an over-clarity / over-sharpness that creates an unnatural contour in the area of the finger nail and the knife blade. Since the original seems out-of-focus, I would have emphasized the grain to create a feeling of an old photograph.

62 Jul 22 Reply Bob. Indeed, it's a bit too "heavy", but it was a quick test of the strobes, not included in the photo shoot. The client was kind enough to be part of this.

62 Jul 22 Comment Pete, I believe is a matter of taste. If find your crop too tight, but I agree it is helping the viewer to concentrate on the subject. When I did this photo, I was still on the client's request style, to show his studio and the guitars (the photo shoot was ordered to promote a tour in Romania and for his new solo album).
For the fun, here is a Behind-The-Scenes of the very first photo session with the same client and his band at that time (6 years ago): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ffbc3J8moTo
