62 Apr 22 Reply LuAnn, I believe it's an interesting approach, I haven't seen it this way. On a second thought, removing the text will also leave the leading lines created by the ropes free of distraction. Thanks for the idea.

62 Apr 22 Comment Hello Emil,

This is an interesting place to photograph! The image suggests me the calm before the storm.

In my opinion, the bottom of the image contains a bit too much negative space, I think a reframing that eliminates most of the lawn could help. I believe the editing of the sky is slightly too strong, I notice a kind of halo around the crown of the tree in some areas.

Nice touch removing the car and the wires, and levelling the picture.
Have a great week!

62 Apr 22 Comment Hello Bob,

Your image immediately caught my attention, it exudes a lot of delicacy.
At first glance I thought it was made in infrared. I like that you kept a lot of details; at first sight, the rather contoured shadows give the feeling that the petals are more numerous.

The only thing I propose is a higher brightness/luminosity of the flower and the complete elimination of the background. On my screen I can see the flower stem and 2 leaves on your b&w version.

I attach a screenshot, which shows the changes I made in LR.
Have a good day!

62 Apr 22 Comment Hello Pete,

Your image reminds me of a photo I took years ago and in which I caught a worker wearing glasses on his cap in the same way ... The look of the subject catches the viewer's attention easily. I like how you did the black and white conversion and the sharpness which brings more details.

The only thing that bothers me is the part of the forehead above the right eye of the gentlemen - that area seems blurry and being slightly darker attracts my attention in a distractive way.

I attach a screenshot, which shows the change I propose for that area (radial filter in LR).
Have a good day!

62 Apr 22 Reply Hello TJ,

What a coincidence to ask me, I just turned on the printer after about 2 years of no printing ... The printheads were not too dirty (just missing few thin lines here and there) I did a few cleaning cycles and everything returned to normal.
I don't know exactly why you're having problems with the printheads cleaning - maybe the environment is too dry? My advice: don't start your printer unless you have to print... ;-)

One solution to save some money would be to buy ink cartridges from Amazon, the prices are cheap, and I didn't notice any problems with the colours. However, if the paper is cheap, you will surely have problems with the colours, even using original Canon cartridges. Avoid Staples or other no-name photo paper.
In addition, Canon offers very good software that allows you to print but also to calibrate the print. Canon also offers ICC profiles for some types of paper that are not made by Canon.

Here is the printer support page on the American Canon website: https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/support/details/professional-large-format-printers/professional-inkjet-printers/pro-100?Subtab=softwaredownloads
For ICC profiles select: PRO-100 series ICC Profile Ver. 1.0.0
For the calibration/printing program select: Print Studio Pro Ver. 2.2.3
The cartridges I ordered for my printer are: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00RUYH7ZA

Be aware the Print Studio Pro is not a stand-alone software, you'll have to start it from Lightroom or Photoshop (check the help guide if needed).

I hope this will help you.

P.S. If you really print only once a year or so you may try Costco Photo Center - the printing service is good (at least here in Canada).

62 Apr 22 Reply Pete, indeed the image has as the main subject the cables, which also become leading lines.
Knowing how to analyze an image turns a comment into a valuable opinion. I'm not surprised you're a group administrator ...

62 Apr 22 Reply LuAnn, yes I did it, but let's say the print was not on my tasteĂ¢â‚¬¦
Your comment send me back in time - we had several classes on printing when I studied photography @ Dawson College and I remember how much emphasis the teachers put on this...

This is a useful tip, thank you for bringing it to this group attention!

62 Apr 22 Reply Hi LuAnn,

I have a Canon PRO100 printer and for the paper I'm mainly using Canon LU-101 13-Inch x 19-Inch Photo Paper Pro Luster. I tried some matte Canon paper but I didn't like too much the result - it looks like the image is faded. Obviously, the printing is not only a matter of personal preferences, is also depending on the image and/or the feel you want to transmit.

Useless to say, stay away from no-name paper or Staples paper - the colours are sooooo different regardless the calibration somebody could try.

An interesting alternative for those not having a photo printer (+ photo cartridges + photo paper...), or in case you need really big size printing, is Costco Photo Center - very nice results!

62 Apr 22 Comment Hello Bunny,

This image is an example of the saying: the best camera is the one you have!

I know a case in which a photo taken with a pocket camera was awarded in a contest ...
The camera does not take the photos, you take them. So, don't be worry about this, just capture the moment!

Then image is well balanced and I like that you managed to keep the details of the snow-covered portions.

Have a great weekend!

62 Apr 22 Comment Hello Israel,

Very nice picture!
The first time I thought it was taken in the US and it made me think of a western movie!

The frame you chose for the image is appropriate and supports the ambiance of the photo.
I notice a tension created by the large surface of the sky that seems to crush the landscape below. A 16/9 reframing would have highlighted the grandeur of the landscape and would also have eliminated the distracting part of the white clouds. Also, removing the car from the landscape would be an action to consider.

You have a very nice landscape in the south of Israel, thank you for sharing this with us.
Have a great weekend!

62 Apr 22 Comment Hello LuAnn,

I love your image, it reminds me of the work of Robert Mapplethorpe (for example https://www.mapplethorpe.org/portfolios/portfolio/selected-works/flowers?view=slider#2).

I really appreciate this photographer and I chose him as the subject of a dissertation during my photography studies at Dawson College. What a pity that he left us so young ...
In 2016 I had the chance to visit an exhibition of his works hosted at The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts - a very pleasant memory!

This photo is representative of your style and I don't think any comments can be made other than subjective impressions or personal preferences.

Have a great weekend!

Thank you for your comment.

I encourage everyone to mark their productions, except for competitions where as a judge I am obliged to disqualify images or videos that have logos / signatures. Otherwise, it is everyone's choice to use them or not, but I see it also as a form of advertising, especially in the case of high traffic videos like this one https://youtu.be/Oyaey5ypQf0 where I get over 139000 views and over 1500 likes.
Constantly, my photos and videos have been used without permission and without a licence. For example, I posted on Facebook the first version of this video that contained only the photos and at the time it was used without a licence and without permission by the organizers of the car show...
Regarding the lower right item: it is an option you can set up on YouTube and help users to subscribe to the channel. However, this item does not remain on a video downloaded / copied without permission, but the one on the top left remains.

I'm glad you visited my website, I just checked and it's functional (the correct address is https://ruxandu.com/ ). A website could be under maintenance or simply down, it is an assumed risk even for the big companies; you probably hit a maintenance period.

At 2:51 and at the end of the video, I used fade transitions for the sound; I'm not sure if you noticed, maybe it was too short. Regarding the conception of the video, it was intentionally divided into 2 sections, the first containing photos and in the second I want to show a bit of the atmosphere. It is an option to redo it in a shorter version that alternates photos with video as you proposed.

Have a nice day!

84 Apr 22 Comment Hello Bunny,

Looks like you had a beautiful trip with majestic landscapes! The soundtrack support well the visual story.

I suggest using some post-production stabilization for the first part of your video. Also, but this is a matter of personal choice, I'll add some punch to the video and the photos by playing slightly with the contrast, the saturation, the clarity (one or all depending on the situation).

What's your next destination you'll share with us?
Have a good week!

84 Apr 22 Comment Hello Wu,

A very interesting and pleasant slide show! Music helped create the atmosphere.

In my opinion, the whoosh sound effects at the transition of the images spoil the ambiance and the magic of the presentation. It would also have been appropriate for all the photos to be black and white - some are coloured. I think you could make a smoother (and a bit longer) transition between the two soundtracks to keep the same feeling.

I hope you will redo the same movie, but in the 16x9 version like for TV and computer screens.
Have a good week!

84 Apr 22 Comment Hello Peter,

Looks like a delicious breakfast we have here! The story is well done and the sound track support the image with cut on the beat and pleasant rhythm.

In my opinion, it would have been good to use different filming angles, not just above the plate. I also noticed some focus hunting, but it wasn't very annoying.

I wonder what we have for lunch?
Have a good week!

84 Apr 22 Comment Hi Kamal,

This is a pleasant trip you share with us.
The combination of filming and photography is welcome.

In the first part, there are many side shots. I think it would have helped if you had alternated with some of the photos, so that the final movie would be more varied.
Another method is to create zoom and pans in post-production by changing the size and position of the filmed frame, if they were not made during filming.

Interesting information about this lake, thanks for sharing!
Have a good week!

84 Apr 22 Comment Hi Dick,

An interesting video full of information! I participated in an aviation show few years ago so I know how hard it's to find the right position for filming and shooting. It's even worse if tripods are not allowed...

The photos are very interesting. I find them a bit too dark, I wonder if the luminosity of your monitor is too high? I also noticed a photo twisted in the mirror (at 7:20), the inscriptions on the plane betrayed herĂ¢â‚¬¦

In situations where you don't have a tripod, it's better to try to use a camcorder with good stabilization, DSLRs are usually poor at image stabilization.
However if you have to shoot with a DSLR is better to leave a bit more space around the subject because if you do post-production stabilization, the software will zoom in while compensating the camera movements. Also, when you shoot without tripod, you can pass the camera strap around your neck and then push the camera forward with your arms so that the tension will help you to have a more stable image.

I'm sure you spent a very rewarding day at that air show.
Have a good week!
