Hi Barbara,
I'm just seeing this image, so sorry for the late response.
This is a wonderful image. The contrast and textures work perfectly and you did a great job of cropping to highlight what you were after. One thing that jumps out at me is the small diamond shape next to the right ear. Perhaps it could be toned down to match the intensity of the space between his neck and torso?
Lovely photo!

I love this image, mainly as an abstract and secondly as a nature photo. The upper right part of the image gives it a watercolor effect.
My deceased father-in-law did landscape watercolors but late in his work he experimented with abstracts. I've included one here because it hang's on the wall in my office where I opened your photo and couldn't help but notice the similarity.
Wonderful photo, Al. |

Hi Kirsti,
Your technique was obviously effective for me because I thought you had stepped in front of a moving truck to get your shot :)
I'm mixed on the octagonal halo. I think I'd need to see a version without it to decide but I understand your commitment to it to match your vision. I do like the diagonal lines coming from the left side, they add some tension to the photo.
It helped for me to open the photo in PS and use a light background in order to get a real good look at the perimeters of the photo.
This is a very original and creative photo!

Hi Jeff,
First I want to say that I am envious of your shooting locales!
Both the color and b&w version stand alone have their own merits. The blue tone in the original is very calming.
I love your crop choice and I think I like the lighthouse as is in the B&W version. I agree with Al's suggestion re the sky but I would not darken it too much as to lose any dramatic effect.
Another great photo, thanks.

Hi Ed,
I was not familiar with this ritual so could not understand your photo at first glance. I did watch some you tube videos and now I see what you accomplished! I like Kirsti's touch of blurring the background, I think it keeps one focused on the swordsman.
Great technical and culturally informative photo. |
