49 Dec 23 Reply Hey David

Thanks for taking the time man, I appreciate it! This shot was out on the coast, due west of Tillamook, OR, but we drove through the Columbia River Gorge to get there!

Thanks for the beta on the processing, I'll do some tinkering next time I'm in LR.

49 Dec 23 Reply Thanks Craig, that's right in line with what I've seen recommended - practice time! Dec 15th
49 Dec 23 Reply Thank you Alan. Dodge and burning is something I'm still a bit gun-shy about and working on improving at, but I think you're right. Despite what felt like an already heavy hand at it, more would be worth playing with. I hadn't noticed the "room to breath" at the top, but I can definitely see your point that it's a bit crowded. I checked the raw file and that's all I've got unfortunately though. For next time!!!

Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it!

49 Dec 23 Reply Good morning Craig. Looks like this is the darkest version I captured in my set of bracketed shots, and you're spot-on - those water highlights are blown. Learn, learn, learn - I'll have to keep that in mind for next time. I'm usually hyper aware of blowing out highlights, but perhaps I couldn't capture the movement I wanted w/out? I can't recall. It's amazing what can be pulled out of the shadows of these new mirrorless bodies though - I'll need to rely more on that for shots like these. Thanks for the feedback sir, as always! Dec 14th
49 Dec 23 Reply Hi Stephen - thanks for the feedback and ideas! I checked the rest of the series and I didn't have any captures taken from a position more to the left, good ol' hindsight 'eh?

Great call on capturing w/multiple shutter speeds. I'm big on getting different apertures (which of course could impact shutter speed, depending on how you're shooting), but I don't shoot moving water all that often and had never thought of it - great idea though and I'll try to remember that for next time.

49 Dec 23 Comment Hi Peggy. Nice catch finding these front porches all lined up, they make a great image. The detail you've captured in the wood really adds to the story as well. If you haven't already, you might play with the crop on this image. As it's presented, the star of the show is deemphasized a bit by the large side of the building. Dec 10th
49 Dec 23 Comment Merry Christmas to you too Alan 😊I like how you've minimized the over-exposure of the lights in this shot and preserved the colors. The black and shadows have also been left relatively dark, which helps to minimize the distraction - nice work.

I think darkening the light tree in the center, and the 4-way fork on the left would be worth trying out.

49 Dec 23 Comment Hey David. This a super cool image, well done. The whole "near/far" thing is something I really struggle with effectively executing and I always enjoy seeing it done well. Nice work having an interesting foreground and background too, the texture, colors, and lines are great.

The image does feel a little dark to me, but perhaps that was intentional. Here's a quick adjustment on it, for consideration (you'd probably want to be a bit more selecting on your dodging and burning, but you get the idea).

49 Dec 23 Comment Hey Stephen, I like your twist on the ICM of keeping your subject discernable, and less of an abstract. This image has a definite impressionist feel to it and I think its story is made more interesting than if this were a perfectly in focus image - nice work! It creates a nice opportunity for the imagination.

Not sure if the whites were intentionally underexposed, but if not, increasing your exposure to include the whites, and adding a bit more color might bolster the impressionist feel.

49 Dec 23 Comment Hi Craig. That's wild - I haven't played with generative AI functionality, it's amazing what you can do with it. Nice even exposure with the light painting and vignette you've applied works well. It feels like the stump does compete a little bit with the vase and flowers, which could be addressed by cropping up from the bottom a bit, burning it, or a combination of the two. Dec 10th
49 Dec 23 Comment Hi Owen. The strength of this image for me is in the story. There's a lot here, but it's related and because of that, is interesting. I like composition as well, it feels natural and works well. To offer something up for consideration, play with cropping the bottom up a bit. Dec 10th
