I like this picture. It is an interesting piece of beach with all the rocks and the spray. The people are determined to enjoy themselves despite the clouds and lack of sun.
My only suggestion would be remove all the people except the person on the right looking out of frame. Then it would tell a different story (or more accurately, ask a different question). |

This absolutely adds to the impact of the picture. It provides a story that develops around the horseshoe's vertical axis as is if in a giant whirlpool. In no way problematic. |

I agree with the prior comments about this being a calming picture with point of interest being the boat and its reflection. The 'boat club' gives a nice context. The clouds look potentially ominous - heralding bad weather?
Much as I like this picture I think I would like the lobster more! |

Very dramatic shot with a huge sense of energy. The decision to freeze the motion of the water adds to the sense of power and danger. It is interesting how the water in the foreground is hurling itself off the edge whereas the water on the opposite side of the horseshoe is more ambivalent about its descent and is even rising again as a mist.
It is hard to get a sense of scale of the overall falls which adds to the sense of danger. |

Darcy, this is a wonderful picture and, as Dawn says, makes you want to go to Alaska. Your enhancements have increased the interest of the picture over the original, especially the reflections and clouds. I am sure you tried different crops and I wonder how it would look if it were cropped to more fully feature the mountains and their reflections in the pool.

Dawn, This is an excellent shot of the Death Valley Dunes. It looks so natural yet clearly is the the result of a lot of technical know how. The brain like ripples, the silky middle ground and the harsh mountains in the background are like a dreamscape.
It would be interesting to see the color version for comparison to the B&W.
I spent a day taking pictures of these dunes (it's very tiring walking around them!) and had very few keepers. My hat is off to you!

Welcome to the group, Jeffrey.
This is a great picture. The range of scales, from individual flowers to flat top mountains, is amazing. The lighting is different for each section of the picture (fore, middle and background) and yet looks completely right in its own context.
Definitely a picture that grows on you the more you look at it. |
