Hi Bev,
Thank you for the kind words and the suggestion. Your post processing definitely helps the gecko stand out (as does Mark's).
When taking the picture I noticed how well the tree and gecko blended. A tribute to the symbiotic way these distinct species have developed, most likely over many generations. I wanted to preserve this in the final picture - although I recognize it isn't as good a picture of a gecko as your edit is.

Thanks, Ed.
I will experiment with the contrast in the top RH area.

Thank you Dawn, the gecko wandered around on these few leaves for quite a while as I watched. Despite the camouflage I think it was something of a show off!

Mark, I completely missed that line under the gecko's chin. It is in the original and is the edge of a leaf. I should have seen it and dealt with it (once it is pointed out it glares at you!).
Thanks

Ed,
This is an interesting picture in the same way that Darcy's 'sun chair in the snow' picture is. What are these people looking at? Such intense observations are being made over a relatively wide area of the beach and, judging by their clothing (the colors of which add a counterpoint to the natural scene) they aren't anglers looking for bait! The sea stacks are an added interest and do not compete with the people (especially in a picture titled for the activity of the people).
Technically the picture looks good. For what it is worth I like to stay as close to ISO100, f8 and the shutter speed as the reciprocal of the lens focal length as possible. This gives me the feeling that I will then have the best image quality possible with the camera lens combination I am using. I notice you tend to use higher ISO's and faster shutter speeds.

Paul,
A very evocative image, like all of your distressed barn photos (full disclosure - my fav so far is the log cabin in the snow).
It seems that creating a convincing image in B&W is a skill that needs to be developed (no pun intended) and you have clearly mastered it.
I am curious about the lack of distortion in the straight lines of the image given it was a 10mm focal length. Did you correct for the distortion or is the lens free of the usual distortions?

Mark,
I agree that adding the person has given the whole composition much more interest by illustrating the sheer scale of the rock formations. My experience has been that pictures of rock formations often look flat and 2 dimensional - you have created a 3D effect that works very well (is it the light contrast between the RH rocks and the cliff face behind that makes it 3D? Something else?).
Your post processing has brought out colors in the rocks that are both beautiful and natural looking.

Darcy,
Clever of you to observe the questions and humor raised by this picture. (I am sure I would have missed it). It is a gift to be able to see these things in a scene.
The post processing has made it a good picture in a technical sense also.

Dawn,
This is a beautiful shot. Photographing the sea is challenging - it is so hard to capture the scale and power of the Ocean. You have succeeded in doing that here. I agree with you about the backlight on the waves being special. The original is a great shot on its own and the subtle enhancements you did in post have created an interesting alternative version.

Kelly, this is a very pleasing scene, well captured. It is very relaxing to look at. The nagging voice in my head that usually says "you're not supposed to passively enjoy the pictures in DD, you're supposed to think hard about them and provide analysis and critique" is quiet. Thank you.
