10 Feb 22 Comment I haven't tried to photograph eagles, but I'm always impressed with photographers who catch them. I love the texture of their feathers. This one seems like it could be a challenge to post-process and help the eagle stand out from the background, unless you go into Photoshop and use layers or localized adjustments in Lightroom. Do you think this might work well as black and white? Then, the audience doesn't have an expectation of colors creating contrast. --Carrie Feb 14th
10 Feb 22 Comment I like the image with the focal point centered, as the depth of field fades out the towards the edge of the image; since the center is the sharpest, then that's what the audience is likely to want to see first. One trick I learned from another Lensbaby/flower photographer, Anne Belmont, is to add a dab of brightness to the center of the flower in post-processing...I like to think of it as the glint in a person's eye for portraits, but with the flower instead. --Carrie Feb 14th
10 Feb 22 Comment I like the precise focus on the most delicate portion of the flower, which the average person may not see (without the help of a photographer). I'm a bit torn on the question of cropping. I'm leaning towards the original crop, just because it adds tension to the photo. Although the viewer may be drawn off the photo by following the petals off the edge, I was still drawn back to the green details in the middle. The additional white-space makes me think this would be great for a magazine spread or inspirational quote poster.

10 Feb 22 Comment I like the story that this image tells. I immediately was drawn to the pencil sharpener, even though it is not the lightest part of the photo. I could relate to it (from grammar school) and it is slightly off kilter, adding a bit of interest. After that, I noticed the barbed wire outside the window, which really got me thinking, especially in contrast with the Psalm on the wall. Personally, I prefer the moodiness of the dark interior versus the bright exterior outside the window; while the shadows may obscure some details, they set an appropriate mood. --Carrie Feb 12th
