looking forward to see the PS method. I have used the motion filters in combination with ICM. Just to mention that this venue of ICM came from a recent presentation in our club, by Stephanie Johnson' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9UZnermJYnw.
Great prseentation. If any of your clubs are looking for a presenter, this one is good. She also have a magazine. |

Nice photograph and then great creation using software. Here is a great example of that opportunity. The blur motion is giving the image a great impact. The image follows a diagonal composition expressing an interesting approach. Jim, I am sure when you finish this image, you were impressed, so you stopped.
Did you try other things like flipping it horizontal?
Or like Mark mentioned a adding a border?
Talking about borders, how about adding a border and having the image flow thru the frame?
No matter what, I am wondering if you are planting tulips this winter for spring?

Levi Pants?????? Not only we have to admire a nice image creation, but to realize the creative mind behind. I love to be presented with simple, or ordinary items around us turned them into objects of art. I hope you give us more details of this creation, No need for the destination of the pants.

It is impressive the angle of the building and some how is making them look ever larger than they are. Great picture to start and then great processing to arrive to this creation. At first I felt It was in Colorado with mountains background, then when examined, was different In NY. Great to achieve different aspects.
After viewing this image and admiring such creation gave me the impulse to go and take some building photographs. |

What a great expression and creation. I love the curved motion of the flowers. The reds, blue and the white clouds have a very nice color balance. I am one of those that feel for frames. I know many, specially in judging, do not. Correct, the branches touching the edges, takes a bit of the image, but the subject is so strong, that makes the viewer ignore that detail. I would for sure appreciate seeing dancing with moves like that.

I love the creative sample shown here. The vermillion, gold and black colors make a great impression. Print it and present it at a gallery in Sausalito, asking a few Ks.
By the way, I am not sure if you guys are familiar with ICM.
Intentional Camera Movement. Similar results to Joan creation can be obtained using your camera. This is not a new venue, But I was re-introduced to it a few days ago, I am having a great time with it. It can be fun, creative, artistic and some time useless. (then is label UCM). I believe using this method can have more choices than with PS.
If any one is interested, I can setup a Zoom and talk about. |

Skiing, Tennis, Nah.... Diving, still a bit.
But Traveling and exploring our world plus having the opportunity of photography, along computer usage, experience and creativity, that is what we seek now.
So you are correct!!!!, again...... |

I did not think O2 had any appeal as it was kind of busy and kind of disorganized. Perhaps removing the moving bar in the two front windmills, could be of some interest.
As we travel, we take pictures because we like them, they may turn into presentable material, otherwise, they are just great memories. What do you think? |

Sorry about that. As you can see, you can place 10 photographers in the same position in front of the same subject and you will get 30 different pictures, possibly more!!!!
And if you bring them, the following day, then.............. |

"Above the horizon". That I have used in the past primarily with people, as once I was told that to make more impact, pictures of people, the shoulders should always be above the horizon, (if there was one).
Now that you mentioned here, uh... sounds interesting. |

Excellent point, perhaps applying any BnW conversion, a minor Orton effect, will add more legitimacy to and old image. Worth trying. |

Now that we learned the importance of the pine, why not concentrate to include both elements. Again the original has a great deal of impact. not just 2 elements but 3 elements... add the shore. |

I love the shore and the infinite amount of photography that can be taken and be created. The mood in this image is very relaxing and really makes you feel you are there. Just the fact that you can watch the soft waves rushing to the shore. Based on Lance comments the clouds could use a bit more placement. But there were elements that distract and actually very easy to improve. So I took the liberty of downloading the image and try to do it. One, I did a close up by cropping and concentrating on the subject, The boat, the clouds and the shore are the main elements; now their positions aligns well to rule of thirds. 2nd I did remove a bit of the fence next to the boat. If you like to preserve the original, no fence removal. Then did some curve adjustments for the clouds. Of course I am playing Monday Morning QB here.
If we find the oars, we go rowing in the next high tide.

Oh boy, do I agree with Margaret? Oh yes. But again as Lance said we loose perspective when cropping it. This image can have 2 aspects, one very realistic, as Lance presented or very artistic as Margaret and I would have love to show it. No matter which one, great image.
Any one for climbing? |

Fantastic moment in time and you captured it. The details of the clouds are very, very good. It looks like a tornado was about to happen, but when tornados are over water, they are called water spouts. It sure looks like one was about to be seen. You have not mentioned if any post processing was done; but if you would have, perhaps making the lower part on the left, a bit more contrast and clarity, would have made this image even more exceptionally. Good you left the spot, we want more of those images coming. |

This is the kind of images that promotes lots of topics, besides being a well defined one. To start, I like the choice of the blue tint, I think there was in the past in BNW history a developing style, called 'Cyanotypes' that gave us that color. Great details are shown with the close up to the structure of the cold steel of the bridge. The composition of the lines along with the stars of the lamp lights are striking. Focusing is excellent from back to front.
I have never being very successful in obtaining stars in my pictures. I think is me or the camera. Of course, I blame the camera.

This is an image to observe and see life in the city. Well taken and lots of details, specially the buildings. The image takes your mind in wondering as to what the couple is taking or what is she drinking and he is eating, also notice about the person reading on the bench to the far right hand side. The glass reflections add a great deal of interest to the photograph. As a BNW I see the full spectrum of blacks, whites and shades in between.
I am going to assume and place this image as 'Street photography' and then say "great shot". Hope to be right on that!

I like the strong contrast in BnW. So to my taste it is a nice presentation of the South West. Just like Ansel Adams, did show the beauty of that country. It is a vast country, so images that covers so much space will tend to be busy, to me it shows the greatness of our land. If you look at it as an artistic image, yes we have to agree is busy.
If you would try an artistic approach, perhaps the cropping the lower part and concentrate on the mountains, perhaps would make it more artsy; as that part of the country is so exciting.
As I wonder over the image, I feel the winds flowing as the clouds move. |

Sometimes is nice to try new things. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. Just like many photographers in the past, they try to show their best. I do try. I resubmit the updated image with plain setup; see above. It is very hard to take a picture, print it and show it. No work in between. So many factors have to come to play to show a great picture. Camera
and lens quality, subject, location, time and an eye for great image, among others factors. So just like the famous photographers, they did employ any possible technique available to them at the time; chemicals, paper and printing techniques to show the best images taken. So to cap it, should we put guidelines in our submissions? things like minor processing or no composites or no original image manipulation or try to submit out of the camera or limit those. As always your advise is very valuable. |
