That goes for about everything I shoot...just not an early riser I'm afraid. For this one I don't mind the bright light as it brings out the colors of bird and water. But you're right, the golden hour is usually the best.

I love purple gallinules...this one caught in a very normal place for them...walking on lily pads. Focus, color and catch light great...you might try to tone down the bright water behind the bird. It distracts from your gorgeous gallinule.
I would get rid most of it with an even tighter crop and then clone out the upper left branch. Lovely bird. |

I have to agree with Tom...tighter crop would be better, but seeing the focus isn't great, I suspect you didn't have a choice. I wonder if that is the original sky? Just curious.
I have seen quite a few of these beauties in Botswana. They are spectacular birds. |

More than a tad posterized...makes it more of an arty shot than a true-to-life shot. Not necessarily a bad thing. Nice action catch. |

I wouldn't have noticed the dark background as usually that is a plus, but have to acknowledge Mike's brightening the greens does make the lovely egret pop. |

Perhaps you could "dehaze" it a bit more or bump up the contrast in PS? For a fall photo it needs to pop a bit more in my opinion. Yellow is okay in autumn.
Just got back from a leaf tour in CO and it didn't disappoint. But yellows were the theme for sure. |

Okay, well at least clone out the spot in the left corner. |

Well, here's a disagreement. I think the way the branch divides and the texture of the wood is part of the appeal of this photo. The hawk is in such good focus either way, I prefer seeing the whole stick (even to increasing the height to include and not cut off the top of the branch.) |

Who doesn't want to take photos of waterfalls, especially in fall. This particular one is nice because of all the layers and colors. |

These moths (often called hummingbird moths) are so pretty and that proboscis impressive. I've a few pix of these myself. My only critique on this photo would be to tone down the white spots in the background. They distract from your perfect moth. |

...And maybe tone down the background. Looks like you have already selected the subject to blur the background, so maybe it would be easy to darken just a bit.
She's a beauty, no doubt about it...and wary too. |
