BTW. I imagine the Great Barrier Reef (I also was there about 20 years ago and blown away by the diversity and color) is now a sad testament to what we have done to the planet.
Your composite with fish added is better. Hadn't noticed that comment until after posting first comment. |

You certainly perked up a rather drab underwater camera shot to make it a real reflection of what you probably saw. The colors and composition are lovely. |

no criticism here, I love the colors, textures and sky. Well done...a lovely landscape. |

Monarchs are beautiful (you have a female there). I wish you had zoomed in further and cropped out the over-exposed bits on the left and bottom to focus almost entirely on the butterfly and the flowers it is feeding on. |

Peahen please...at the risk of sounding like a feminist nag.
Lovely portrait.

If they are mute swans does that mean that many of them don't make a horrid racket? |

Not a particularly interesting portrait of a pelican. Sorry to be so blunt. At that range it should be tack sharp. |

Gabriele, I looked it up. Your photo is of a Blue Crane from South Africa. The sanctuary has all 15 species of cranes. |

Like the toned down background. Yes, they are fast. This one could have been in better focus, but I was hard pressed to get the camera pointed in his direction before he left. He is a he I'm pretty sure because of the breeding colors. I've not seen one this colorful before. |

Yes, it stands out better. Lovely hawk, we don't have those here. |

Nothing wrong with that egret. Every feather is in focus. I always wish flying birds could relate in some way with their surroundings. Landing, taking off, etc. |

Wow, I've never seen so many swans. They are gorgeous birds and I understand somewhat aggressive. Perhaps you could brighten them up just a bit? It looks like a grey day. |

That is the oddest sandhill crane I've ever seen. I do know the lessers and greaters interbreed, but this is an unusual youngster. Are you sure it wasn't some other kind of crane? The Crane Foundation saves all species of crane.
Normally young sandhills have some rusty coloring on their bodies and their wings aren't that long. (Cranes have tail feathers, they are just short.)
I have seen many migrating crane families and now that it's September they'll be flying south so we'll have more chances to see them. A juvenile in late August should be showing more typical plumage.
As to the photo, the background fence (?) is distracting as it looks so fake. Short of replacing it, I have no suggestions. |

I make a lot of through-the-window shots too...the advantage of living in the boonies. Your photo is a graphic example of nature "raw in tooth and nail" (or something like that). Your hawk is sharp but a little lost in the background. If you could separate them a little more I think it would be a stronger image. |

Great action shot of a lovely bird. It looks like from the original that you dealt with the blow outs on the right pretty well. If you select the bird in Photoshop, lighten the bird and berry, darken the background and crop the bottom off to make it a square would be my suggestions. |

Look like barn swallow chicks to me. The mesh doesn't bother me. I like Michael's comments about trying to separate the heads from the background and darkening the nest just a bit.
Nice catch. |

I would select the waxwing and warm up the color. Leave the blue berries as they are. Nice catch |

I'd say you salvaged a rather dull original and turned it into a very nice portrait of a mule deer. |

Finding them during the day is tricky. I like the chick/parent interaction. Have you heard them call at night? Very eerie sound. |

Have to agree with Sarita, the colors are too, too blue. I hope that landscape isn't the best Tahoe has to offer, otherwise it really is way too overdeveloped. Now with all the fires around it, lovely landscapes may be even harder to find. Sad commentary on our stewardship of beautiful places. |

I cropped it like that on purpose to focus on the bee and get it into the thirds position. Flower is nice too, but huge compared to the bee. |

Great jackal photo. The sky behind the back end looks a little muddy. A little cloning could fix that. Nicely blurred background. Good colors on the jackal. |

You are so lucky to have roseate spoonbills nearby! Such amazing birds. I like the photo okay but I like the original much better (it's not the same shot). That one with the head lightened would be the better choice IMO. |
