Forgot to mention that mandarin ducks nest in tree holes as do our wood ducks. Not that usual for ducks. If you see the chicks jumping from the nest you will be really lucky. |

Guess I should have said less built up instead of less populated. Still think it's too bright behind the peli |

Lovely owlet. Background is distracting IMO, but what can you do shooting up towards the sky during the day? Obvious blown out areas you muted as best as you could. Think maybe I'd crop more off the top to minimize the white spots and try a heavy vignette. Not sure how that would look but it would emphasize the owl. |

Have to say I like the original better with the changes I mentioned already. I know you were asking Don, but thought I'd throw in my 2 cents. |

Forgot to mention that the background would be better toned down. The bright white detracts from your wonderful pelican. |

OMG!! What a duck! I've seen them only in zoos and not looking that glamorous. His breeding colors are exquisite. The colors all around are great and the blurred background very nice. The over-the-shoulder look is a good pose. We get lovely wood ducks here, but these guys are even more colorful. |

Yes, I'm sure it was after a feeder bird. You might try brightening the eye and face with a little dodging to pop that stare. Also, on the left, clone out the little branch and possibly larger one as well. Lovely feet on a beautiful bird! |

Pelicans seem to be endlessly photogenic. I like the pier shot. I wish the beach was less populated, but probably not a lot of options like that along the coast. Wonder how many pelicans are banded? and why? |

I'm envious of your avian options. I had no idea the heron's breeding plumage was so colorful. It's a great landing pose. Too bad it's not possible to get them doing that without all the background, but that's where they build nests. You did your best separating the bird from the background. Next get a photo of you almost getting mowed down...hee hee. |

Wonderful image. Background is perfect and your framing very subtle and nice. The rain was certainly a bonus. What framing app do you use? |

Obviously a special place for you. A slight criticism: with a landscape photo such as this, you've left a lot of empty space in the center. The little car doesn't take up enough of the story to count. The road doesn't draw us into the photo. Without your explanation there isn't any emotional pull to the landscape. |

Good call to delete some of the birds, esp. the one in the trees. I only wish the whole photo was a tad sharper, but the silhouettes are very nice. |

I like photographing insects too. My quibble is the focus on the eye is too soft. Other than that it's a good capture and the colors are great. |

wow, stabbed that fish right through. Good moment. But have to agree with the others that the fish is too bright.
I would tone down the background as it seems too overwhelmingly bright and detracts from the heron. Not sure how the others feel about this. |

What a determined little heron. Only change I would suggest is to give it more room in front to move into as it is obviously moving quickly. Tight crops are good for static detail, but there is a lot of action in this one. I like the one of it peering through the slats also. |

I always shoot RAW. I'll try enhancing the colors. No mother nearby, but I was on the opposite side of the wide river. I am a fan of the glacial blue water and mossy logs, so left them in on purpose, but I understand not everyone shares my fascination with damp climates. Colorado is dry. I'm afraid baby bear isn't as focused as I'd wish, so didn't want to zoom in more in post-processing. I may play with it some more.
I only have one longer telephoto zoom lens - 70-300 so it had to have been that one. |
