no argument there. It was very far away. Definitely couldn't blow it up too much. |

Perhaps a few more of the distracting elements behind the lovely action shot of the herons could be cloned out. I think the spot Don is referring to is plant not bird, but isolating the action would make them pop. Always good to have the birds doing something, altho, I like portraits too. |

Mike, you don't want grackles in the UK, believe me. With global warming they are moving north and beginning to show up in our area of Colorado. Ron makes them look gorgeous though. They do have lovely iridescent feathers.
I agree with the added space below and to the left. Makes the photo more balanced. Cropping is so subjective, but can make such a difference. |

Like the fact that the ibis is so clear and the background so muted. Nice catch. Even the bee over its head is in focus! |

It's a shame the background is so overwhelming. It would be better (IMO) if you could have cropped it so the birds were overwhelmingly the main subject and then darkened and blurred what was left of the background. Can't tell from this low res photo if you had enough crisp focus to allow this. |

I hate agreeing with everyone. The ONLY problem with this photo, in my opinion, is the skimmer doesn't have an eye. Eyes are so critical in nature shots. Unfortunately, the lightened version looks worse. Way to much noise. Not sure what Photoshop magic could be applied here to find the eye and make it look realistic, but it would be worth a try. |

Interesting that you picked up on that. I took the branch out and replaced the white sky in a submission to my camera club and it won 1st place.
I agree with you, the branch should go. I was in a hurry to get the submission in and picked this because it was already sized for entry.
I think I'm going to like this group. They seem to be picking up on the small details that need mentioning. Thanks for the feedback. |

But I wish for this one you had not converted to B&W. I want to see the smoke you refer to. Unless you mention it, I don't know how anyone would get the idea of climate change from this perfectly fine B&W scenic shot.
I too am old enough to have witnessed climate change in my lifetime...it's a sad legacy we leave. |

OH burrowing owls are my absolute favorites. What a great photo. Background blurred while the whole owl and nesting material in sharp focus. Color tones good too. Wonderful. |

House wrens are so dependable. Every year we have many using the houses we made for them. It could be mom or dad...they look alike and both feed the hungry little mouths. My only beef about this photo is the eye of the parent. It looks strange. If you have other shots you might check to see if the eye looks better. I might have left the tail intact also. Not cropped quite so close.
At least you didn't post the photo of the parent taking out the poop sack...heh, heh. I do have one of those but won't be posting it. |

Good suggestion, it does seem a bit too bright.
Alas, it is part of their survival coloration that makes them blend in. In some of the other shots they blend so well it's hard to even see them. |

I'm not a LR user altho everyone I know is. Too steep a learning curve for me. I just use Bridge with camera raw and then go to PS for the finishing touches.
If you just move the slider in Levels it does what you just did. I think your lighter one is much better. What comes out of LR and Bridge is often a little muddy in my opinion. |

Sherrie, looks good but maybe try running your photo through Photoshop Levels? I think your hawks would pop more. Just a thought. Always a mixed blessing having Coopers nearby. Hope they just eat the English sparrows. |
