Anne, I looked at this much earlier and thought I had commented on it. Now I see that I did not. It is a gorgeous scene, and I think it works either way. The Black and White makes it more moody, and brings out the reflections of the trees. The trees really stand out, and you captured that well. With the settings, you probably did need a higher ISO, but I am sure you were caught in the beauty of the orange sunset, and settings were less important. |

Robert, it is hard to not shoot such a dramatic sky. That is a real WOW in this photo, and the playground adds some interest. You might try to remove the houses, trailer, and other clutter and just leave the nature and trees of the background, and then the playground is there. Good capture! |

Michelle, I think you brought out the image in the best way. They way you described what you did and why, made me understand where you were going with it, and I would have made those same adjustments. If you could only get rid of some more of that junk, it would be more pleasing. Those club field trips can be fun! |

Tim, very interesting shot. I liked that you cropped the front out of the original photo, and made a much better "portrait" photo. You could catch him in any pose at any time, and you took advantage of the ease of that! Nice shot! |

Dean, I think you nailed it. It is a striking bird, and the feathers on it are beautifully displayed. I like the crop and the focus on the yellow eye, and the unusual pose. I shot a great-tailed grackle at Berry Springs Preserve last weekend, and since it is not scared of people, I could get close and take several shots. I see why you chose this one out of the 100s of birds you saw on our trip. |

Dean, Thank you for those comments. My first crop was the whole window, like you shared. In fact, my vingette darkened the top of the window also. Others suggested a tighter crop to increase the size of the figure. I haven't even printed it large (14 x 11 or 18 x 12), so I will try those and maybe the print will help with the resolution. |
