This is a wonderful Bird in flight capture. There is great detail and contrast. I might suggest a subtle brightening of the owl's eyes to make them the focal point.
That we would both convert an owl image from a raptor centre the same month is quite a coincidence but owls do make great B&W subjects.
We both used NIK and I wondered whether you used SEP2 or CEP4 in your conversion. If you used CEP4, did you consider adding a Detail Extractor filter after the B&W conversion? |

Hi Ed, Lovely image of a fascinating object. I think the choice of base and backgrounfd are excellent. Overall in the composition I would suggest there is a missing element that would create a story beyond just posing an old camera. The addition of another element (Tweed cap, whiskey glass, pipe, etc) that might suggest the identity of the owner and why the camera was there would take this great capture even further.. |

What a creative composition John ! I like the sun reflections on the front of the horses that help create depth. I would agree that the crop suggested by Peter would help. Another suggestion would be to take it into CEP4 and apply the Graduated Neutral Density Filter and lower the upper tonality to increase the weather drama. It is an option but I think I prefer the crop, |

Hello Peter, Lovely image and well composed. The white farmhouse is balanced by the sunlight of the mountains on the left. That weather coming through the gap makes me to want to up and run. I find that the tonal range and levels to seem to be perfect. Looking at the storm itself, there seems to be artefacts on the left and then accross about halfway up. Is it worthwhile to attempt to smooth that out to reduce the distraction? |

Thank you Ella, I agree with Peter & yourself about cleaning up the post. In this version I cropped it harder than Peter's version into a portrait. Unfortunately I have no space in front of the Owl as he moved like lightening when he decided to go ! |

Peter...thank you for the input with which I agree. I regularly forget that it is B&W and I can make that type of change to the image. |
