Hi Ed - From my perspective, your new edit is a great improvement. I think the dome and building show up much better in this version and aren't overwhelmed by the sky. I did notice some unusual patterns (artifacts?) in the sky in the new version that don't look like they belong. |

Albert - I appreciate the comments and will try a version with a little less contrast. |

Here's my edited version. I also darkened the sky, which also seemed to keep my eye more on the child. |

Hi Robert - I love the composition of this image. It's such a great storytelling shot as the viewer wonders about what's the story in front of our eyes in the shot and for me anyway, what might the rest of the scene outside the composition look like. My only suggestion would be to consider finding a way to brighten the chid just a bit. I tried a large radial gradient over the child and surrounding area and pushed up the exposure a bit just to see if that might work and I think it did make the subject a little more visible without looking unnatural. Regardless, a great shot! |

Hi Kirsti - What a great capture! I think you've done an excellent job on the composition and the image has a great tonal range. I especially like the storytelling aspect of the shot. My one suggestion would concern the brighter spot to the left side of the subject's hair (not in the hair, but next to it). Although that section adds a bit of mystery about what might be going on, I think the strength of the subject might be diminished by that part of the image. The subject's expression and shadowing is so strong, having something draw attention away might take away from the overall impact of the shot. Regardless, this is a wonderful shot! |

Hi Ed - Great story of this fascinating place and I think the image lends itself well to a black and white conversion. That said, I think the sky is so powerful it's overwhelming the subject. The sky is the brightest part of the image and also has the most contrast. To my eye, toning down the sky and pushing up the brightness and contrast of the East Gate and Dome would help direct and keep viewers' eyes on the subject. |

What a good street shot you've captured. From my perspective, the strength of the image is its storytelling. The serious look on the faces combined with the fact that neither subject's eyes are looking at the camera make this a compelling photo. I might be tempted to try adding some contrast to the subjects to pull them out of the background just a bit. A vignette might be worth a try too, to see if you like that change. |
