Hi Ed - I think the stairs and bench are the stars of the show and I would consider a crop from the top, down to the top of tree. I'd also try a crop to exclude the streetlamp(or clone it out). The image then becomes all about the restful bench at the top of stairs and the simplicity of the scene. Just a thought! |

Hi Kirsti - Congratulations on winning the monthly competition. You certainly captured what you were after with the two ethereal subjects! I do have a couple of thoughts about tweaks to the image. I would darken or remove the white roof behind the second ghost. Also, you might consider darkening the road they're walking on. In the original, the source of the light is clearly the street light. In the final image, you can tell it's dark outside but the bright street doesn't seem to fit. I tried those two suggestions and here's what I got. |

Hi Al - What a sweeping vista represented by this shot! I think the foreground in your image does help add depth but to my eye the most compelling aspect of the shot is the mountain and I think Ed's edit serves to put the focus of the photo on the mountain itself and helps make the image more impactful. |

Hi Robert - I seem to fall in the middle of the suggestions. I do like Ed's edit that keeps all the birds in the frame and I also like the darkened background Kirsti and Dom suggested to make the birds pop. Keeping all the birds in the frame makes the image seem more dramatic and less random to my eye. |

Thanks for the comments Ed. I agree with your thoughts about the sky and did tone down the brightest parts (see comments to Dom above.) |

Thanks for the comments Dom - I did remove the tree reflections and also per Ed's suggestion toned down the brightest parts of the sky and decided to lighten part of the dune too. I think all improved the image. Thanks again. |
