47 Feb 23 Comment Hello Ed - Thanks for taking time to give this image an edit! I really like the detail you kept in the distance to enhance the feeling of depth. I'd tweaked my version a little to show more detail in the distance but this shows me I can go further and get even better results. To my eye, I would prefer to see the walls on the right a little darker. I think darkening those walls would help to enhance the nighttime feel. That said, your version is much closer to the original. I just always seem to lean into the "dark and moody" on these shots. Thanks again! Feb 20th
47 Feb 23 Reply I am going to try a thin white border. I have done that before on some darker images and I agree it could help this image. Thanks for the comments. Feb 9th
47 Feb 23 Reply Good catch! I agree it needs to go. Feb 9th
47 Feb 23 Reply Thank you for your thoughts Kirsti. I was just going to try and pull some more detail out of the darkest parts but with two votes for a crop, I'd better try that too! Feb 7th
47 Feb 23 Reply Thanks for the suggestions Albert. I think I'll try and pull up the exposure on the side and get some of the texture to show. Feb 7th
47 Feb 23 Reply Thanks for the comments Dom! Feb 7th
47 Feb 23 Reply Ed, I cropped even closer to the top of the church to try to make the church more prevalent in the scene. It's such a unique structure it deserves to be the star of the show! Anyway, here's what I did. Feb 7th
47 Feb 23 Reply Here's the image with a little darker interior. I think the 3-d impression might be even a little more pronounced with the increased contrast. Feb 7th
47 Feb 23 Comment Very nice shot of the intricate cathedral ceiling. As I focused on the image it seemed to have a 3-D quality to it (right in the center), which added to the interest of the photo. I experimented with adding contrast by pulling down the lighter mid-tones and liked the results but that may not be your vision for this beautiful ceiling. Nice shot! Feb 7th
47 Feb 23 Comment I like the processing that darkened and blurred the background and highlighted the subject. Also, the detail in the bird's feathers is great. For this image, having the bird in the middle seems to work well as the subject fills the entire diagonal of the image. The part of the branch where the bird is standing seems bright and might be toned down. I don't know about the purple tone in the background and on the bird's tailfeathers. Feb 7th
47 Feb 23 Comment I think this is a wonderful composition and the long exposure worked great on both the water and the clouds! One suggestion I would make is to slightly brighten the waves at the shore. I tried a linear gradient on the bottom half of the image and pushed up the whites (and brought down the blacks a bit too). Beautiful capture! Feb 7th
47 Feb 23 Comment What an amazing building to be able to see and photograph! I'm glad you didn't crop the bottom part of the sidewalk. I agree that it's a great leading line into the church. That said, I would consider cropping down from the top to just above the cross to reduce the sky's presence in the image. The sky is so bright and interesting it seems to overpower the church. I think I'd also consider removing the two people on the right by the sign. The two walking on the sidewalk are still there for perspective. Anyway just a couple of suggestions and thanks for sharing! Feb 7th
47 Feb 23 Comment The strong contrast between the building and dark sky makes this a very impactful image. The photo has a good tonal range and I like the composition within the square crop. Great shot! Feb 7th
47 Feb 23 Comment I really like the composition of this image. It tells a story. My only suggestion would be consider just a tiny bit more contrast. I tried a small Lightroom tone curve adjustment to push up the highlights and bring down the mid-tones just a bit and I liked the results (although the change was subtle). Great image! Feb 7th
