I think the new image is an improvement. I think the increased contrast works well! |

Thanks for the observations Kirsti. I do like your suggestion to consider cropping the sky to get the barn off the middle. I'm reluctant to crop the field too much because I like the light, curvy line from the bottom of the image to the barn. I did darken the light part of the sky (Albert's suggestion) and to my eye, that change was a big improvement. |

Thanks much for the suggestions. I'll work on the bright part of the sky and try your crop suggestions. I had tried a version before to reduce the field in front but not in combination with moving the barn off-center. |

I understand and I also liked the position of the hands. Again, it's a great image! |

WOW - what a difference! My whole focus goes to the statue and its meaning without being pulled away by the busy background. From my point of view the image shifted from a snapshot of a statue to an image that evokes a very strong emotional response. In the second image I was able to focus on the statue's graceful arms and more clearly see her fingers, making the image come alive in an emotional sense. |

You've not only captured a fascinating subject but you've added depth and dimension with the reflections and background. What a wonderful image! From my perspective, the top half of the image is the most interesting and has all the important elements. I tried a crop that left the bottom of the image just below the third button on the guard's shirt and moved the guard slightly off-center. I liked the crop because the guard's face was even more dominant in the photo. I also lightened the guard's face just slightly and added a small amount of contrast to the whole image using the Tone Curve in Lightroom. |

I like the uniqueness of this image and the story it tells. The bright wall makes me think it must be blistering hot and the clothes on the line really (from my perspective) makes this a compelling image. It's unfortunate that the sky lacked clouds and I wonder if darkening it would help. Another solution would be to crop down more from the top. I tried a version with that crop and didn't think it measured up at all to the original. I then tried a more severe crop and thought the results weren't horrible so I've attached it.

What a worthy monument to photograph. I have to add I appreciate the sacrifices you've made to help ensure our freedoms Ed! This is a tough image to shoot because of the busy background brought about by the tree and to some degree the clouds. I wonder if darkening the sky a lot and lightening the statue a little could help pull the subject out from the background. You might also consider a vignette to really bring focus to the middle of the image. |

What a beautiful image! I like the lines, the light and the shadows all represented in this photo. I agree with Ed's observation about darkening the brighter parts of the foliage in the background a bit. I also noted that the focus on the lower flower seems sharper than the main flower in the image. |

I think you've done an excellent job capturing and processing this image. Although I'm a fan of a lot of contrast in black and white, the sepia fits the scene perfectly! My only suggestion of something to try would be to add a little clarity. I tried it and, although subtle, I liked the result. |
