47 Apr 22 Reply Thanks for the comments Al. His expression is interesting and his look really never changed in any of the 6 or 7 shots I was able to take. Apr 17th
47 Apr 22 Reply I appreciate the comments Ed. I think the eye change was a great suggestion and makes a material difference to the image. Thank you! Apr 17th
47 Apr 22 Comment As a travel photo - mission accomplished. I'd love to visit this place some day based on this image. The rock wall is a great frame, the path is a perfect leading line and there is a wide tonal range. The walker adds perspective but is difficult to see. Perhaps lightening his jacket or pants to make him a little easier to see would be my only suggestion. Nice shot! Apr 8th
47 Apr 22 Reply I've been very surprised at how often people say yes, when asked if I can take their photo. I probably ask permission about half the time. In this instance I had to get really close to the subject to take the shot I wanted and there was no alternative but to ask. Approaching people for their picture has gotten easier with practice!

I did have several versions of this with smoke and my strong preference was to use one of those images. Unfortunately, the color of the smoke was too close to the gray skies that day and I just couldn't get it to work. The images with smoke all looked like some sort of flaw in the sky.

47 Apr 22 Reply Thanks Kirsti - Great suggestion on the tighter crop on the right side. I would have liked to include the cigar's tip but it abuts a column in the background and I on't yet have the Photoshop skills to deal with it. Apr 8th
47 Apr 22 Comment I have no experience making images like this so I'll be of no help with any technical suggestions. Regardless, I really like what you've done. The woman's face and appearance seem to fit perfectly with the house. Other than her three earrings, she seems like she could have lived in that home's era. I thought the most compelling part of the image were her eyes. I had a hard time looking away. I guess if I had to make a suggestion on this image, it would be to consider cropping both sides in just a tiny, tiny bit. Great image - well done! Apr 5th
47 Apr 22 Comment I like the composition of the image as it portrays a very interesting slice of life story. The image is definitely dominated by the large, bright statue. I wonder if you could bring out the gentleman on the porch by darkening the statue a bit? I know you said you didn't want to crop too much but…Maybe cropping the image at the top and bottom (to just above the top porch and just above the wall at the bottom) would help a viewer's eyes go to the individual first.

47 Apr 22 Comment Cold, rugged, foreboding, and impossible (just finished a book about mountain climbing) are words that came to mind when I saw this image. I think the image is very well composed and I particularly like the leading lines of the mountain ridges as they disappear into the clouds leaving me wanting to see even more. At first I thought it might improve the image to crop out part of the right side but I downloaded and tried and was wrong. I did try a modest tone curve adjustment for more contrast and that might be worth considering. Apr 5th
