I think you could have cropped this in multiple ways Ed. For how you did it, I think I might cut the bottom a dad more as that rock on the bottom left is a distraction, then you'd have that first mossy rock leading into the main ones in the middle. I also like the center leaning to the right tree a bit and you might think about cropping it in portrait mode? Just a thought.
The rocks on the right bottom look a tad too bright to me (not by much and my eye gets stuck there instead of on the mossy rocks.
Might I suggest darkening the background a tiny bit (maybe a vignette) and brightening the mossy rocks a bit as well to further bring the viewers eye where you want it?
I think you've done a good job of capturing the serenity of it and good choice of shutter speed and nice DOF. It makes me want to go visit there! |

HI Bob, I'd love to know the details of this shot! Did you hike up there? Was it off a road? I've never been there, so curious about that. I like the composition, but bothered a tiny bit about the top of the tree cutting into the small island -- were you restricted to movement (likely :) ) or were you able to more around a bit?
You captured, what looks like, a beautiful day. |

Curious what your setting were for this one? Specifically, your shutter speed? When I'm doing a long exposure, I always think about what is the correct speed, is it too fast or slow?
I like your composition and think you were successful getting it off your bucket list!
It might be my screen, but it feels a bit dark and the WB looks off a tiny bit and think it might benefit opening up the shadows a bit, I think it would help with the different shades green and the water is pretty close to black. Hope you don't mind, but here's my interpretation of your image. I warmed it up a bit, opened up the shadow and added a few radial filters to the water, bridge and small reflection of the waterfall at the bottom. Interested to hear your thoughts! |

I like the simplicity of this shot Darcy! Looks like a great location to visit. I like how you cropped the right side to balance it. I think I might have taken it in a bit more and also crop out a bit of the sky given there are no clouds.
I like what you did with the right side of the image, warming it up a bit, perhaps you could try to cool the left side down a bit more given the sun is on the right and see how that looks.
Minor thing, and I'm not sure what's going on, but on the left side of Haystack Rock, there's a bit of a green halo against the sky that I don't see in the original. It seems one of the adjustments you made added that aberration perhaps? |
