Thanks Paul.
For my HDR, I set up my camera to bracket either three or five shots at two stops difference. It keeps the aperture the same and varies the shutter speed. When it's windy out, I have to be more careful with this.
If you want to do this manually, I'd shoot in either manual or aperture priority and shoot at exposure, change the shutter speed two stops under, then two stops over. Hope that makes sense, let me know if it doesn't. |

Thanks Neil, I have a ton of images of this tree from that morning from different angles, different compositions, and different light. This was one of the first from the morning and I set up quickly to capture the color (darn truck was in front of us on the way there going way too slow.... :) ) |

I really like your composition here Neil, the moon's placement above the dip helps balance it. Starting on the left side, moving up toward the right and circling back to the moon.
I can't speak to the color, it looks like the sun was setting as the moon was rising? I see a shadow on the rocks? |

Ed, I like that details on the barn, the shadows from the roof slats, the leaning of the barn. You did a good job highlighting the details with contrast and perhaps saturation?
In your original, I like the right side that you cropped out, but understand why you cropped it out for a different look. |

Paul, I really like the layers and depth to this image. Curious what focal length you used here, it feels like you used it on the longer range of your lens? Nice shot!
I too like the green here, but it feels a bit too vibrant to my eye, but just my preference. |

I've taken a few workshops with Action, some good guys. Thanks for the info on the pano, pretty impressive!
I personally like the lightning on the right side, my eye goes there, then the storm cloud brings me back to the left and all around again.
Tip, I just saw your response as you didn't "reply" to my comment. If you do, we get an email that you responded. if you do it from the bottom, we don't get notified! |

Whoa!! Where to start on this one George. This is beautiful. There is great balance between the foreground and sky, the details of the lightening on the right top and right side and details in the clouds themselves. Nice job!
For the panoramic, was it 8 across? Or two rows of four? Given it was at 17mm, assuming 8 across.
As for the storm chasing, how was the experience? Did you go by yourself or with a group?

Thanks George. I really like this one as well!
Love to hear how you'd fix the branch issues in Photoshop! I tried a new trick in Lightroom by putting a filter over the tree to soften the light a bit, then subtracted the object, in this case, the tree so that it didn't soften the tree -- this is what might have caused this issue.
As for your vignette observation, I think you're right. I like to add them to bring the viewers eyes to the subject, but give the silhouette of the tree, not sure I needed to add it. |

Hi Darcy, to me, the star of the show is the reflection as you've pointed out and the logs in front and the top are distractions to my eye they way they've been framed. I'd like to see a bit more on the top or more log. I also see what you mean by the sand, it looks a bit too green to me? I also like the reflection color in the original.
Hope you don't mind, I wanted to see what it would look like with making a few adjustments, let me know your thoughts. |
