I did use an ND, think it was a three-stop.
I tend to do long exposure as I like the "movement" that is conveys. And, I always come home and wish I had taken some shots by freezing them. (just did it again yesterday!). |

Another "who knew" there's terrain like this in Oregon!
I like what you've done with the rock, nice contrast. I feel the top left of the frames a bit too dark and the green is a bit too bright for me.
I grabbed it and made a few edits -- as always, this is just my thoughts on editing and everyone has their own vision!
I created a sky mask and decreased exposure, contrast, dehaze and textureI and increased highlight a tiny bit. I then added a radial mask in the top left of the sky to address the dark corner and decreased dehaze. I then added a linear gradient to the foreground on the left at an angle to darken that area a little bit (and increased clarity a tiny bit to make it sharper).
Let me know your thoughts! |

Great job on the exposure blend here Neil.
I like how you composed this this shot with the stairway up. I think there's a bit too much sky and might crop a tiny bit off the top, perhaps to 8x10 maybe. I feel that it make the rock look bigger somehow. |

Curious, what shutter speed were you using? Guessing a fast one given the and eagles didn't show any movement?
I like the silhouette of the tree and the eagles. The color in the sky feels a bit too cold to me and I think I'd crop the left side a bit. I took the liberty to make a few edits on it, let me know your thoughts. I brought up the vibrance a tiny bit and decreased the saturation as well. I also decreased the highlights and increased the whites a bit. |

Oh my! I'm may have photographed that same rock with a 4x5 film camera years ago!
Onto your image, It's really nice to go back to an image and have an ah-ha moment like you had. I like your composition and feel the solitude for sure. I also like how you cropped it.
I can see where you were going with the high key B&W, but to me it feels a bit black in some places and I'd like to see a bit more detail in the black parts, especially when compared against the lighter rock.
Welcome back! Hope you had a great trip! |

Super-zooms can be quite helpful and fun to shoot with. I appreciate how you've captured something local to you, it's something I often overlook, nice going!
I like how you processed this image, it's a nice balance. I prefer your original crop myself, I like the wisp of dry grass on the right side of the frame.
What were your settings? |

Thanks Paul! It is quite fun to do I must say, but requires a LOT of shots to get one you like. |

Nice shot George! I have yet to capture a pano Milky Way shot -- kudos to you! I like how you used the moon to lighten the rocks. Your processing is spot on as well and balanced nicely with the warmer foreground and cooler night sky.
