Hi Neil, yes, we were indeed up early for it. I have some great shots of this same yucca that we light painted and you can see the stars still in the sky. It really is a great location to shoot and practice composition skills. |

Thanks Mark -- yes! White Sands (but you've probably read that by now :D). I did think of doing this B&W and think it's good as well. I also thought about a square crop, but really like the shadow and didn't want to lose that as I feel it add to the image. |

Neil, I love the flow and movement in this image and the figure walking off into the distance of the dunes. There's not much going on with the sky, I'd perhaps look at cropping this to 16x9 or so. I like the grass in the foreground, yes I want to see a bit more of it. I like how you've framed the figure almost to the "v" portion of the grass.
The contrast of the golden color with the sane, the shadows and the blue are well balanced. |

Symmetry and the person walking in the frame are well done. I've always try to wait until people leave the frame, but recently have thought of how I can include them to add the the story and you've done a great job here.
The brightness of the bottom right corner is the only thing that distracts me a bit, otherwise, I think it's well balanced. |

I really like how you cropped this image. You've used the rule of thirds and the golden spiral well in your crop. The small house surviving on the side of the mountain in the clouds/fog is the story to me. Nice job highlighting the house as well.

Hi Darcy, I really like the macro shot of this, it's up close and personal! I find that bright leaf a bit distracting, perhaps next time remove it before the shot? I like the composition of the originals shot a bit more (if the leaf weren't there). I also prefer the mushroom a bit more in the original as well as it seems a bit brighter to me.
I've tried something similar to this shot and couldn't make it work, nice job! |

Kelly, nice job on the composition to highlight the story of the unknown soldier.
The brightness of the background headstones takes my eye away from the unknown soldier tombstone a bit, perhaps burn it in a bit more? I agree with Mark, a shallower depth of field might add to the image a bit, but given this was taken with a wide angle lens, guessing it wasn't much of an option for you. |
