I need to navigate where to submit for review at PSA, can you direct me? I get lost sometimes on the site!
For this image, I did use a luminosity mask for the sky as the edge was such a big contrast. I use Lumenzia for my luminosity masks (he has a free trial I think). That said, I'm still LEARNING and don't edit nearly enough to have it come second nature to me so each time, I have to re-learn what I'm doing! I then did a lot of masking in general as well to bring out specific things I wanted to highlight (reflection, center rock, left and right cliffs, etc.) |

Thanks Paul! This is another one from the same morning, just ~10 minutes after the above shot. Again, I was lucky and got a lot of different images from this location from multiple times visiting. This image was stacked from multiple images for the varied shadows, lighting |

Thanks Darcy! I'm current editing another shit that I took a few minutes after this one that is totally different. I'll try to post it soon. |

Thanks for the kind words Ed! I was definitely lucky with the rainbow, that's for sure. I'm sure they're out there, but don't ever recall seeing this location with a rainbow above it. |

Just realized you might have meant the rainbow -- I did NOT catch the full rainbow, it was WAY off to the left! That said, I'll still post a landscape view from sunset so you can see that.

I've been editing one with multiple images for the shadows, reflections, etc. It's taking me some time, but will post a quicker edited one this weekend so you can see the landscape view. |

Interesting. I will have to try it next time out to see the results in shadows, etc.! |

Yeah, I think it's an easy mistake to think the sun was at 2 o'clock. But it was behind me of this shot for sunrise! The light all around was amazing and given the clouds, rain, and rising sun, the colors and lighting changed quickly. |

Hi Kelly, Thank you! Was all a challenge given the location of where I set up and my terror of heights!
Most of my lens are zoom lens when I'm out and about so I try to stay between f/8 and f/16 most of the time if light, conditions, focus allows and what DoF that I'm looking to capture. I wanted to make sure the foreground was in focus so went with f/14. I was also on a tripod, so it was easy enough to stop down to f/14 to get a greater depth of field.
While I haven't specifically tested my lens (I really should do it!) on the edge to edge focus from f/8 to f/16, I have been happy with the results at f/14. This lens is incredibly sharp all around. |

Mark, thanks for the suggestions. Yes, for this image, I went into portrait mode to try to get the rainbow if it had popped up above. All my other images after this shot and even before we're landscape mode. In hindsight, I do wish I had taken one with the rainbow in landscape mode. This was taken at the end of July in monsoon season, don't know if you'd consider that high summer? |

Mark, I'm not sure it was lens flare given the sun was rising behind me. It was monsoon season there, and there were clouds to the left and behind me that were raining! |

Neil,
I really like how you framed the clouds here -- I am imagining that on the left was clear blue skies leading to the clouds. The wisps of clouds feel like they are beckoning in the nighttime in after a long day!

Hi Ed,
Great image of an experienced Harley rider! You get the feeling that he's lived on Harley's all his life.
I looked at the image and thought about the composition of the flag and agree with Neil -- If you had stepped/shifted a small bit to the side so the flag wasn't coming out of his head and also shifted down a bit to get the rest of the shadow of the wheel and his feet, it would make it a stronger image. Nice shot. |

Paul, nice capture of the skies, the layers of the different clouds to the light toward the bottom. Is it the tree that adds to the drama to the clouds? Or the clouds that add to the drama of the trees? Either way, you've captured it!

Mark,
Not much to not like about this image. The simplicity of this image, square crop and the sun peeking out on the horizon are quite lovely.
I do like the original as well with the lighter gradient coming from the sun. Nice shot.

Darcy,
I agree with Neil regarding your capture. The soft light and warmth on the bridge is great. I like how you framed the bridge itself and the area on the right of the frame. However to my eye, I don't find the foreground is needed and I'd look at cropping it to a 16x9 or 16x10.
Curious, can you explain this camera technique you're trying?

Hi Kelly,
I really like the B&W conversion, it brings one back in time. B&W can be done in so many different ways with more or less contrast and I think you did a good job capturing the moodiness of the moment by keeping the contrast on the lighter side. I think your edits also make it feel like it might be a print found in someone's drawer from years ago.
I know you cropped the tree on the right a bit and framed the image with it, did you try to cut it out completely? I think that might enhance the composition a bit more, especially given the sign's angle leads to the left. |

Thanks Neil. Nature really is amazing and I'm so grateful to be able to explore and capture images like this.
I don't know if it was second rainbow or an artifact, although it looks like it could have been a second one. I didn't see when taking the picture only when I started to process it.
I got there before sunrise to frame the shot on a tripod. I wanted to be at the lowest native ISO on my camera, so set it to 64. I also wanted to stay in the aperture sweet spot at f/14. The light was changing quickly, I kept looking at the histogram to make sure the exposure was going to capture both the highlights and shadows, so 8 seconds it was. The shadows weren't too bad, so I was able to capture it in one shot. Just a few minutes later, the shadows were pretty harsh, and I had to bracket, but this was one shot. |

Thank you Paul! I tried to bring out the colors where I saw them that morning to enhance the RAW file. |
