43 Aug 25 Reply Thank you, Angela. I didn't notice that until after I got home and had the image on a larger screen. It's a state park. I wonder if they're part of a study or conservation effort. Aug 28th
43 Aug 25 Reply Good thoughts, Lane. There are some tough points here. The spots are actually in the air, not my usual sensor spots. For reality based categories like reportage or wildlife, I can't touch them. I probably couldn't enter this in nature, as there is hand of man visible with the railing. (I think there's an exception for scientific bands) Darkening down the blown out areas may be a good start. I appreciate the observations. Aug 28th
43 Aug 25 Reply Good thought, Bunny. 1/2000 would certainly do it! Aug 25th
43 Aug 25 Reply Good eye, Bruce. There's always the debate over freezing the action vs leaving a little blur to show the action. I've been working on that fine line between "It looks like it's going to fall out of the sky!" and having an image that's too blurry. Aug 25th
43 Aug 25 Reply Thanks, Mark. I wear my photojournalist hat a lot and am hesitant to make too many changes to an image, but you are 100% right, some selective darkening would definitely help here. Aug 25th
43 Aug 25 Comment I really like this image, Bruce. I think I'm with the gang on cropping out the distractions, and the fact that this is a great scene. The blues and greens and the fantastic lighting are really inviting and make for a peaceful scene. It sounds cliche, but I'd love to be there on a summer day. Aug 25th
43 Aug 25 Comment It's fascinating to see the view from a position that is not a tourist. This is a "YOU ARE THERE" image, and the grittiness is off the charts. It's a heavy image, but it's a story that needs to be told and I'm glad you shared it with us. There is a lot to unpack here, and the colors and wide variety of textures really tell the story. Thanks for letting us share this with you, Mark. Aug 25th
43 Aug 25 Comment Nice work, Lane. Why is it that the coolest pictures of airplanes always require braving the hottest temperatures? I love the fact that you chose monochrome for this image. The textures lend themselves well to grayscale, and the clouds really stand out in the sky. Was this in Tucson?
If I have one suggestion for this, it would be to step a bit to the right and crop out the engine farthest to the right. This is one case where symmetry works out really well and gives the image balance.
Way to go!

43 Aug 25 Comment I'm intrigued by this image. Before I read your description and the scifi comment, I half expected to see the War of the Worlds space ships coming through and blasting everything. I really like the treatment you gave the image. The fact that you've taken an every day image for the Scots, applied a slight twist, and a LOT if imagination to come up with an image that evokes such a great reaction is fantastic. My hat's off to you, Bunny. The color choices, the subdued textures throughout the frame, and composition all work together to create a mood. Well done! Aug 24th
