Thank you, Leo. I had a really good time working on the different angles, and trying to hold the camera still. I should have used a tripod!

I love playing with the square format. It doesn't always work, but I think you're right about this one. It's a really good choice. Thanks for the observation! |

Thank you, Lane. I think you're right about the crop. All the different lines give lots of options. The tight crop is great! |

Nice job, Bruce. I've been paying attention to still life photography like this lately. The presidents of both of my local camera clubs have been putting out some great work like this, and I really admire the skill it takes to do this well. I think you've captured these tulips very well. There's good directionality and quality of light. Neither the shadows nor highlights are overpowering, but the light revealed the texture in the leaves and blooms of the tulips. The detail in the vase is very delicate, but doesn't steal the show. It contains the blooms very nicely. The one tulip laid on the table kind of complete the story. You did a really nice job controlling the light. The shadows are opened up just enough to give shape to the tulips. Way to go! |

I love the imagination you've used in making this image, Harley. You envisioned a scene and executed it masterfully! The image has great technical excellence. The subject is sharp, you've done a great job with composition, and really told the story. Personally, I see someone looking out a window, wishing they were at a picnic. This was artfully done, and you've managed to present an impactful image to convey an emotion with skillful presentation. |

This is great macro work, Lane. I've started playing with my macro lens and appreciate how much of the flower you were able to get in focus. You've got great detail throughout your image. The colors work very well together, and I agree with Harley. The just-past-prime condition of the bloom tell a great story. Just like Bunny, I really like how you've filled the frame with the flower. Nice image! |

Bunny, this is gorgeous work! It has enough elements of realism that you can see that you started from a photograph, but the artistic spin you put on it brings it into the realm of fine art. It conveys a feeling of excitement of the safari, but the color palette you've chosen and the soft, painterly feel are calming elements. The guide sitting on the chair and the running giraffes give the "rule of 3" composition element, the road is a leading line into the frame, and the first person view really strengthens your story. I love the frame you chose here. The look of the "wood" have just enough of an exotic feel that lends itself very well to your subject matter. I think you checked all of the boxes on the list you made to turn a cellphone picture into a compelling work of art. Nice work!! |

Great image, Leo. I think you did a fantastic job capturing this scene. I really like how the vertical elements of the dragons work together with the buildings in the background. The confetti in the sky really emphasize the festive feel of the scene. The people, including the other photographer in the frame add implied leading lines that keep our attention in the frame, on the performers. Your low angle and tilted perspective give great visual interest to the frame and help portray the emotion of the festival. Well done! |
