Thanks, Harley. I think you're right, both framings have their merits. I'm enjoying trying to find the right balance on this situation. Thanks for your thoughts and encouragement. |

Thank you, Linda. These little buggers do tend to not want to stay still. I think I'll work on finding the best bird/plant balance. I appreciate your words of encouragement!

Thanks, Leo. I've been playing with the shutter speeds to try blurry wings as well as sharp wings. I'll try some more images with slower shutter speeds and try the sweet spot where the body is sharp, but the wings are blurred. I appreciate your thoughts on this. |

Good points, Mark. The brightness of the flowers do take you away from the bird. I'd like to wait to get some images of another bird who has some flashes of color on the throat. That may help a bit. This particular fellow seems to be the bully in the area. I also agree on not getting as much of the flower. I'll have to plant more flowers so I can get more birds! I appreciate your ideas. |

Thanks for your ideas, Bruce. I'm finding out there are a lot of elements to consider in this kind of image. I really like the aspect the flowers bring to the image, but they are a bit of a distraction. The question of wing capture has a lot more to it than I realized at first. I appreciate all the items to think about. This isn't a bad project to go back and work on some more. |

Great image, Bruce! I think this is the image I tried to take a while ago. As mentioned in discussion of another image this week, which way the subject is facing is important. I had titled mine "bee butt on thistle". While it got some chuckles in the competitions I entered, it did not fare well. You nailed this one. The detail in the bee and flower are striking against the bokeh in the background. Your work on the colors paid off. The tones are very complementary, and you even managed to capture some spider webs on the stalk of the plant. Way to go! |

I really like this image, Harley. You've managed to extract a vibrant image from a wide scene, and given it some intimacy. The richness of the colors is wonderful. You've blurred the background and popped the elements on the bird to make our friend really stand out. The only thing I'd be willing to try is to throw a slight vignette on the image. Darkening the edges might give the scene a little bit of moodiness that might really set it off. Nice work! |

I've also been looking into this kind of photography recently, Mark. I think you nailed this one. The detail throughought the image is tack sharp. Your choice of colors are wonderful. I also really like how the detail of the reflection in the bulb and the filament inside are so crisp. What a cool idea! |

Great job with this image, Lane. I love how the sides of the mountain, as well as the rays of sunlight, bring your eye into the middle of the frame. The detail in the rocks and trees in the foreground is wonderful, and i love how the sun has lit the patch of trees in the middle of the image. The way the distant mountains fall off into the haze gives this a peaceful tone that I think everyone has seen. Nice work! |

I can really see what caught your eye in this scene and what inspired you to work on it and take it further. I like the choices you've made. The colors in the image work well together and I really like the detail in the landscape. I'm intrigued by images where I have to really look to see if it's a photograph or not. You did a really good job on this, Linda. |

Great image, Leo. You captured the delicate textures of the wings, as well as the wonderful bokeh in the background. The detail in our friend here is wonderful. I kind of agree with the group on the crop. I'd isolate the subject a little more and eliminate the distraction of the reflection in the foreground. Other than that, this is a great story. |
