Hi Carol, I also thought that the center is beautiful and sharp and would be nice to see what a composition with a closer crop would look like, with just a hint of the red around it. It would inch towards abstraction I believe. |

Hi Keith, not much to add to the conversation on sharpening the eye. I am curious if you could get a sharp close up of the bugs, that definitely draw my eyes towards them. |

Hi Fran, I echo Stuart - I also like the greenish blue and the texture. But maybe the texture would be even more interesting if you cropped it closer in. |

Hi Tom, amazing what you can get with smart phones. I also like the colors and background. The texture is interesting - does look a bit unnatural to my eyes, but I see what Carol means by the "comic book" look. |

Hi Stuart, I also like the color combination and the composition very much. I find it so so hard to get insects sharp - maybe it is the imperceptible movements while you take the shot. |

Thank you so do much Stuart very useful. The good news is I brought back with me the shell so I can do the test shots you suggest. For this one I had used the in built camera focus bracketing settings. I will order a focus rail and will redo photo using Helicon remote as you suggest. |

Hi Viren, I echo previous comments. I also like the symmetry. And technically it seems like a nice sharp image. But I also would like a bit more of the narrative or emotion you are trying to convey. Bob's edit does add some drama to it. |

Hi Robert, I am more and more drawn to the option of "image plus text". In some cases it does help to understand better the image through the eyes of the author. In your case maybe cropping the image to have the 2 trees (or part of them) frame the passageway" could help. Also it would I think focus ones eyes on the light beyond the darkness. |

Hi ye, I agree with comments from others - I love the reflections of the building lights and would like to see more of that. Also you could crop some of the sky, and also the right part of the bridge until the end of the white shaped building as it distracts from the main focus. I like what Bob did to enhance the colors. |

Hi Haru, it is overall a beautiful image and I can feel the calm and silence and awe seeing the scene. My eyes go to the parallelism of the trees reflected in the lake and the shape of the mountains. I wonder whether cropping the mountain on the left to the point of the peak of the highest mountain, and on the right side cropping until the beginning of the small tree would work. It would simplify image. |

Hi Bob, I really like this image. The way I see it is that in this case the composition as a whole is the focus. A Navajo environment showing the texture of the nature and the mystery of the trail - there for many years first with horses now jeeps… I like the color combination of yellow, oranges, and browns with the green contrast. The light does not help you but that is always the challenge when we visit magnificent spots at the "wrong" time of the day. |
