Hi Dan, Overall the image does give me a sense of peace and calm. I tried black and white but definitely the soft pink sky is very soothing and also warms a bit the winter image. I am also curious if you added the birds or were lucky to get them in the shot! I like the cropping of the fence as is - I like the symmetry. The one thing that I would change is if you could have kept the full trees and not cropped the top. |

Hi Cheryl, I learnt a lot from your note on how you con constructed the image. From experience I know how hard it is to get fireworks and cityscape together - so your creative blending idea is great. I really like the revised crop you sent to Dan and then adding the 1 firework on the right enhances it as others commented. Thanks again for sharing in such detail how you produce images. |

Hi I feel it is too pink, or said another way to me it changes completely the way I look at it, now it is more of a surreal/ abstract photo. The original had a more "real" look, and I liked it better. |

Wow thanks! Interesting blending of my 2 homes 😱. Thanks, I go back there every day and will try to be more focused on what I want to convey. It is a bit complicated to get closer - in fact.. I just lost on the rocks my ND filter and the cover of my lens…. Interesting on keeping skies on file. will start doing so. i need to learn how to insert them with Lightroom. Very grateful of the at tips from this group. |

Hi Bob, I really love this image. It is majestic. I wish you could bring out a bit more the colors of the rainbow and give a bit more light to the mountains - so more contrast overall. But what luck to get this scene! It gives a real good sense of the power and beauty of nature. Maybe crop the left side so the eye focuses on the rainbow and the raising sun on the mountains at the right. |

Hi Emily, Wow - I had never seen an ice volcano. Very impressive. And I love to see the background. An idea would be to crop the foreground one, to give more focus to the middle imposing one. On the sky agree that it is a bit tame - I wish we could always time shoots at sunrise or sunset...

Hi Haru, I am torn because I really like your original photo. It was mysterious, and majestic with the 2 waterfalls. A place I would like to go and sit for hours in solitude with the sound of the water falling. I do like the color addition with the fall foliage hues. I agree that the person does not fit in. Also - getting closer in focuses the eye on the waterfall. I always have to deal with the issue of wanting to add more background to give a sense of the environment, and maybe it takes away from main message. |

Hi Bob, I was also in awe when I first saw it. The depth of the image is impressive, and it also gave me the impression of a Moonscape. It gave me the same sense of peace that I feel looking at the horizon in the ocean. I did find the colors a bit unnatural - made me want to see the picture with the natural colors as shot - but I have never been in North Dakota so maybe this is closer to reality than what it seems. I agree with decreasing the space given to the foreground. Also the transition from the white to the green appears a bit abrupt to my eye. In the second photo you posted I feel the purple is too strong and takes away a bit from the harmony of the composition. |

Thank you, I like your crop - more focus on the rock and just some background to give the setting. I will try to shoot something similar. What did you use/do to enhance the sky? |

Thank you Bob A and Bob W, I really appreciate comments on the words... a learning curve, but might be that the image/text combination works for me. Not easy to find one's own "Voice". I feel very privileged to be part of this group and learn from you all! I will work on being more succinct.
Great suggestions for the photo - this spot means a lot to me - to the point that is it where I want my ashes eventually to be scattered. So I would like to get to an image that I can frame. So I will take in all the suggestions and work on a new image for February. I struggled with the composition - because I wanted to show the rock as centerpiece, but wanted also some background to give a sense of the majesty and beauty of the surroundings. I was not happy with the sky - I have a new GND 2-stop lens which I have not used, maybe that will help to slow the water but keep the blue of the sky. I will apply your suggestions in the next shots. Thanks again. |
