Thank you Cheryl, wow - lots to learn. I am using lightroom, not photoshop. Will see if there is something similar in LR. Thanks again - very nice transformation. |

Cheryl, wow impressive effort. I really like the version of Dec 14. I am impressed by the work that went into producing the image. Clearly a lot to learn for me!!! The essence of the photo speaks to me, it's like giving life to the stars and the night sky. Night photography is very challenging to me and I look forward to learning more thanks to your expertise. |

Dan, thank you so much for the book "More than a Rock" recommendation. Just got it and I am excited to start reading it. It is exactly what I have been looking for. |

Bob, first of all sorry for my late comments. Technology in remote places is not a good combination. Wow your question is always in my mind when I take pictures - I also love photography for its potential to go beyond the individual moment to a universal emotion. And I also feel that my greatest challenge is being able to cross that line between a mere snapshot and an image that truly speaks to other human beings and elicits emotional responses or memories. What spoke to me in the first picture was the gaze in between the 2 set of trees, looking at the depth of mountains and the horizon. I am fascinated by oceans and the feeling I get of the lands and mysteries beyond the horizon - I got some of that from your mountain shot. I was distracted by the brightness of the sky at the top of the photo. Your updated picture today, without the trees on the right did not feel as deep to me, although I liked the more somber cloud cover better.
I am very honored and happy to be part of this group. I have enjoyed so much reading all the comments and suggestions and I am learning so much just from this first month! |

Dan, I love the image. Truly gorgeous. I do like the human figures, the fact that they are so small adds to the mood. The beauty and majesty of nature and the humans part of it, but small in this framework. I also like very much that you lowered yourself to take the perspective from the ground up - great idea to try. I would hang it in my home.. |

thanks, on soft focus of clouds - yes might be that they are moving, or maybe I focused on the skyline rather than halfway. |

Hi Emily, I really loved the theme of nature and man-made blended together. There is a symmetry in the trees and the turbines going up towards the sky. I did feel that maybe the blue part of the sky was distracting from the main subject of the photo. I am always struggling with not cropping ex-post, but focusing at the time of the shot on the core of what I want to show. I am impressed by the phone's capacity to capture the image - ps I am an iPhone girl... Maybe lacks a bit of crispness, but excellent option when one does not have the big camera and tripod available. With humility I tried to crop the sky, add whites +28, and shadows +70 with Lightroom.

Haru, I definitely FELT the image. I had an immediate emotional response - that is what I aim for and you did it beautifully. The symmetry and the mist definitely created a very serene and as others have said, surreal, atmosphere. Actually, when I saw the photo at first, I did not see the white bird. I then noticed it when I read you description. And then I realized that I did like the presence of life in the environment. The red is really evocative and that is why I prefer the color version. I also love the reflection. |

I! yes I like it too. Not exactly what I saw, but I love reflections. So very useful insight on adding them - how exactly did you add it? |

Thank you so much! Great and useful comments. Apologies to all for my absence... I am spending the winter in a remote home in Nayarit, Mexico and had no internet or cell line until today. I will try the adjustments you propose. |

Thank you! I am honored to be able to have your suggestions for future images. I did shoot RAW, but I am still tentative on how much to edit. Thanks for the additional contrast suggestion. I thought about cropping myself.. so you confirm my initial feeling. |
