Thanks, Pat. Totally agreed that capturing living / flying insects are very challenging.. We need luck (for the encounter), quick action and good preparation.. That makes it so fun and satisfaction feelings.. Similar to capturing actions of birds, esp those mother and children actions in the spring.. |

Oops.. Tom. I should have used your de-noised version to apply the High Pass filter. By the way, what tools did you use to produce this improved version? |

This is a newer version after adding more noise reduction and Using High Pass Filter to sharpen the edges of the bugs. The key parts (e.g. eyes) are sharper than the original... Was also trying not over-doing it. |

Thanks, Gloria. Agreed. It's good learning experience for me.. And staying alert and be prepared to capture anytime.. I probably will have a better setting next time when such opportunity arises. |

Thanks, Tom.
Good point on removing the noise. I did apply the de-noising effects in ACR, but seems not helping alot. Maybe I should try with Topez Denose app. |

Carol, this is an amazing shot, especially under the outdoor condition and handheld. I love the overall lighting and focus point. At my first glance, I thought you used flash light to bring up the foreground and darken the background.
I am very curious to learn the Chiascuro lighting technique. Thanks to Stuart for the link. |

Very nice idea and subjects for macro photography.. Thanks for sharing this macro opportunity. I can see where you like to be in focus and where not. The f/22 aperture does help. Good work. |

Love the black-lit morning dew drops.. The blue colour is pleasing. Not sure if dimming the in-focused drops (the top part drawing main attention) could help show more drops? |

Thank you, Carol. Yep, although I was not too happy with the extremely shallow DOF, I was pleased that I was able to capture the 2 bugs at a pretty good angle.
Thanks very much for the suggestion of trying the PS high pass filter function. I will give it a try in a couple of days.. Hope I can improve the outcome.

Good points, Stuart. Yeah.. I was clicking too hastily without giving more thoughts to the proper setting.. As Carol mentioned, I probably could have allowed higher ISO as the D850 can still produce dissent quality image. I was also worried about getting too close as well. This experience is worthy in reminding me to keeping a cool head so quicker thinking to reach a more optimal setting. |
