Tom, thanks very much for the info.. I will definitely try it some time. I saw some Youtube video showing the photographer using macro lens on focus rail while shooting outdoor flowers. It's great that I can follow your suggested steps and give it a try. Thanks again. |

Good cropping and rotating, Tom. However, this is just depending on personal taste.. I think the diagonal pattern is more eye-catching and seems offering better reflection angle to the sunlight..?
Agreed with Tom.. It also looks like a waffle with nice contrasted bottom.. :-) |

Hi Tom, I appreciate the whole image is clearly in-focus.
Just wondering.. do you use focus rail to take the 21 shots? Or fix the camera and move the focus point around the whole body of the insect?
I was thinking, shooting such small object, what is the best approach to arrange the various focus points.
Hope you don't mind sharing your experience. Thanks. |

Love it, Carol.. This is something I need to learn.. What a great idea of using such soft warm background, making it like a rainy shot. Yep.. softness is definitely good for such a composition. I also like the inclining angle of the stem of the flower. |

Interesting pattern. I love the side-light making the over image interesting.. Just wondering how it would look if the pattern goes diagonally..?
I love your artiest creation. |

This is an amazing shot of the hover fly.. I blew it up and see all the details, such as its hair. Very crisp and clear. The red flower compliments the overall layout of the image. However, from my personal view, could it be the flower a bit over-saturated so losing a a little details? Just my personal impression.
On the whole the image is very pleasing, esp. the angle to the fly is perfect. Good job. |

Thanks, Carol.. This was the first time I could shoot a frog in close range. I started from sunrise, staying till Noon.. and caught sight of this lovely creature.
Yes, as Stuart also suggested, I should have cloned out the green patch on the top left corner (after cropping the overall image).. My usual careless oversights when doing post-processing.. Will find some time to do that and post it here.
Thanks for the suggestion. |

Thanks, Stuart. On that day, I was using high speed to shoot water lilies under the very strong hash sunlight.. Good point that 1/500s could also work except the aperture would have to be much smaller to avoid over-exposed. I also like that the eye was so sharp and in focus. |
