Also, would Helicon Focus / Remote be a better tool for focus stacking than Photoshop? |

Yes, Carol. This stone is smaller than the one I used last month and it's more flat. The reason I used this stone is that I would not have to stack too many images, as a first tryout / learning experience. I think the close-up may look sharper if I have stacked more images than 9.
I think I may also try focus stacking on landscape pictures.. Which is not in scope of this study group.

Hi Tom, I used Photoshop to merge while stacking the 9 images as separate layers. I merged them all at once. The stone is not big at all. In fact, if I slow it down more with even smaller f/stop, the the whole stone could be mostly in focus.
By the way, I tried using the focusing rail you suggested last month. However, as the camera moves in parallel to the stone surface, the focus point moves with the camera.. Then the PS software ended up not able to merge them properly.. I must have missed some steps..? |

Thanks, Gloria. Yeah, I think this could be a start in trying focus stacking on small objects through macro lens.
As to zooming in to make an abstract image, that probably does not need focus stacking..? |

Nice shot, Gloria. I like the soft colour background. You gave me the idea of collecting some red maple leaves for similar shot could be interesting.. as now Fall is coming.. |

Amazing shots.. Love it! Did you take those 9 shots outdoor? The shadow of water drops are wonderful.. was the subject under the sun? |

I can imagine that it's a very difficult shot, given the outdoor environment and those reflective spots.. Very good result on the whole. But there are still some spots that are hard to remove but not compromising the other areas.. It's a lovely figure. You have done a good job in blurring out the background. Thanks for sharing. |
