Hi Pat, I love the bright colour (so natural) and the clear texture, plus the smart diagonal layout.. You gave me the idea (and example) of brushing out some of the shadow. Nicely done. Thanks. |

Bernie, very nice capture of the shell imprint, with good details. Did you shoot the image within a lightbox (with ring light as you mentioned)? I was just wondering.. would the image be more interesting with some background going with it? Just a thought came to mind (in case I have a similar opportunity shooting a specimen like this stone with an interesting imprint).. |

Yes, Carol. The Nikon 105mm Micro is in fact a macro lens (just a Nikon term). I did not do much cropping of the image (as you can see the original). |

Tom, this makes me think of those images of virus or germs... another level of macro.. giving us amazing views that our eyes not capable of capturing. |

Thanks, Fran and Pat.
Definitely we need the front (side) light to create reflection. When I mentioned back-light, I meant trying to create some light pattern from behind so the background could be more lively.
However, on second thought, it would also distract the contrast which makes the hairy straw to stand out. Will experiment more when I get a chance in the future.
Thanks for the discussions and ideas. |

Thanks, Stuart. Good points.
I was thinking the side light from top left could provide some gradual change of lighting to add to the reflection. I agree it does present a distraction. It's a good idea to try using centre-light through the back-drop. Thank you for the suggestion. |

Love this little guy, with fasinating red eyes.. I am sure it's not easy to catch it in such still position and in focus.. Just wondering how much cropping you had to apply to get to this full size image.. Very nice catch! |

Nice pattern; and good back-lighting.
Was it shot through a glass panel? Good idea for some indoor fun.
