Hi Carol,
I love the bright colors and shallow DOF in this image. I sometimes over-do the contrast to boost the color during post-processing.. And you did it to the right amount. Thank you for sharing.
One point.. Just wondering.. Would it help increase the impact if the center of focus is something different? Just my personal thought trying to learn how to compose. |

Thank you, Tom for your suggestion.
I definitely will try that.. with a tripod as well.
I do sometimes set a shot with auto-focus followed by manual refining. Then set to manual focus without moving further, before taking multiple shots. Will now try with various apertures and compare the outcomes. Great suggestion. Thanks.

Hi Carol,
Thanks for your detailed observation. Agreed that, with even larger aperture I may be able to make it the sharpest in the middle of the flower and the outer part a bit softer; hence the main subject of attention would stand out more.
I was thinking of removing the stem, but thought it would show a leading line to the center.. Will try to soften it more or removing it next time.

Hi Stuart,
Thanks very much for your comment.. good advice on the depth of field. That's what I found myself struggling with when first started macro photography.
I was trying to set the focus points larger so to cover the parts I want to be sharp. It's a great point that I should use manual focus to ensure what the outcome is what I am after. Thanks again.
P.S. The aperture of my picture was bit too large as well.
