Thanks for your comments. As I mentioned in other comments. This shot was difficult for me to compose because the statute sits on a hill and if you try to backup to get a better/different composition, you're likely to fall backwards and roll down hill. Rather than chance falling and damaging my gear; I took this shot as you see it. And yes, this was a clear day; but I like the way this shot turned out.

Thanks for your comments, I appreciate it.

Thanks for the comments. This was a hard one to compose, but the end result to me was better than expected. True I could have waited for a cloudy day or changed the sky to add clouds, but the day I went out was one of the better days in Kansas City for that time of year. March/April in Kansas City can be cold and rainy. This particular day was mild, clear and no wind. To get the composition for this shot, I walked around the site for almost 45 minutes checking different settings and to me, this was the best.

Again, thanks for the comments.

Thanks and thank you for the kind comments. I haven't thought about sky replacement before, but the example you provided does look nice.
Thanks

96 Oct 21 Comment Hi Cheryl,
Wow, what a shot! The composition is very nice. I like how the path leads one through the trees. The way that you did this in Photoshop is impressionistic, nicely done.

The path is a natural leading line that directs the viewer, I think using color to lighten and balance the midtones, and highlights might be all that would be needed.

I do like the composition; you did a great job here. Again, very impressive! Photoshop is one app that I don't know anything about, but I do like what you did here. I'm a Lightroom user and lately have been giving Capture One a try.

Thanks for the kind comments. Whenever I take a photo I do look for those leading lines that draws the viewer to the subject. This was a hard one to include that, unless you include the walking path; it naturally takes you directly to the scout. As for the sky, like I mentioned in the other two comments, I had never considered replacing the sky. I've always been the type of photographer who keeps everything natural, as taken. But I can see that having some clouds overhead would add so much more to the shot. I'll start looking at doing that in the future. Again, thanks!

Thanks for the kind comments. I've had several folks mention that I should have composed this shot so that there would have been more sky above the scout. The problem was that I didn't have much room to stand unless I had stayed on the sidewalk path, which in hindsight I guess I could have done. I was trying to set the composition to include the scout as if he were actually overlooking the city and if I had turned towards the right, I would have caught part of a parking lot in the shot, hence, I stayed towards the left. You're correct that this would make a nice sunrise or sunset photo, but I had never considered replacing the sky for that. I guess I rather go early in the morning, or later in the evening and actually capture the real thing.

I haven't thought about B&W before; but I think I'm going to give it a try. Thanks for the comments, it gives me some things to think about when composing future photos.

96 Oct 21 Comment Bob, very nice Macro image. Macros are great when done right and this one has great composition. I like what you did with the color, it makes the image pop.

Like you, I have a hard time seeing beauty in flowers, but my wife is always asking me to take photos of her garden for her garden club. When she does this, I usually get in trouble cause I just hand over the camera and tell her I'm going for coffee. My heart lies with landscapes and cityscapes, and especially nightscapes.

For this photo, you did right by adjusting the color balance, midtones, and shadows. You brought this one to life.

96 Oct 21 Comment I really like this photo. Composition is good, it's clear and sharp and I can see the reflections in it.

It's surprising that my eyes were drawn to the reflections on the lake and not to the rocks in the foreground. Very unique.

I do agree with Haru in that the foreground could be over to the right just a bit, maybe a little more centered. But that's my thoughts. Overall, this is a good image.

96 Oct 21 Comment I like the composition of this image. I didn't even notice the grey sky until I read your comments. To me, what I saw first what the unique tree and the moss covered rocks with the waterfall in the background. I like the image, but also wonder if it could be a little lighter. Overall I think it's a good shot. Oct 5th
