first, surprised. my quick look though it was some kind glass/rock with light. but it is chemical on glass. sound like fun. it is beautiful. some texture, neon. it cuts out its own shape. beyond that I cannot really give a critique because this is new to me. I think I will try the water drops first. I am glad you are trying for us!!! |

I can't believe how much of a tiny are of your whole specimen that is now in this photo. the magnified view has so many polyps that it is hard to find enough focus - I see center to center left the most focus - with maybe 4 together in focus. so many more not in focus so it is hard to get a prominent focus spot. with so many items I do feel like I need something to stand out more. focus stacking I assume will help. colors are nice and being so close in also give it that impressionistic feel of not knowing what it is but imaging many things. it will be interesting to see how your final triptych works. |

it is a great specimen. I really like the sharp hairs on this - mid yellow, top of green. might be fun to experiment with sharpness running full length of the flowers vs in the middle straight up - more of the sharp hair - maybe that needs the higher f11+? the background color feels unnatural - I know you said "not much light". photoshop the leaf out, alter background color. |

I love this project - it is on my list of things to accomplish with the water drops. I think you have a scattering of drops to make it interesting and there is a variety of sizes. I remember when trying this I could not figure out what I was supposed to do about the focus... so this looks nice as a soft focus. how close/far did you have the cloth. I can see the pattern differs with the size/size curvature of the big vs small bubbles. did you use white cloth with purple and yellow flash filter? or color in cloth. I was assuming the cloth at first then I see different colors in the cloth. |
