WIND - my nemesis in SF - cannot get any pretty flower photos. stuart listed detail - most important to me are the wings since the bee is so dominant. I find it hard to follow and get the bees - usually get them rump first... no time to decide what camera setting just pick ahead of time and shoot. I like the green blur background - if gone higher aperture you would have had something different or had to edit it. and this was hand held? I like the set up of the scene and the color - that works. if this were for a focused bee then the flower and bkgd could both be diffused. |

I like your cropped image because do like asymetrical and larger than original. your redo looks a bit larger so that is impressive also - I don't have enough experience to be influence by flowe on left or right [learning here as I go]. the lily pad on the bottom makes me feel more anchored. the 3 white/sun reflection spot - I love finding things like that also. I did think that in the original the "3 dots" looked brighter. I am wondering if you could single them out more in the final and make them look brighter so there is a more constant stream to the diagonal line. I have shot sun and been frustrated at shadows also - like carol said needing 4 hands or multiple pieces of equipment - you get it set up and the sun has moved in a short time. |

this retake I like even more - the caterpillar is more "in my face" and the whole caterpillar is dominant - not sharing dominance with the flower. |

what I like is that I know it is a macro photo by what is out of focus vs what is in focus. this is a great subject due to the length and then jsut getting the head/hairs in focus is all that is needed for me. so I like this angle. background nicely muted by. would be ideal maybe if the flower part in the front was not quite as prominent but you are at the will of the moving caterpillar. |

seriously this is not a photo that you need to comment on - I wanted to post as my first try so I had to further commit to pursuing. I wanted to go thru the motions of pushing the buttons on photoshop. question: when you move the rail are you disciplined about it or indiscriminate - I don't think my rail moves well and very undefined. I really feel that I am almost blindly moving it try to see in the viewer if I can tell different parts are in focus on the screen. something doesn't seem right.
