other than the testing you are doing with equipment... I tried one of those branch with growth on them. I found it has so many element that hard to decide what looked good in macro. your response to tom made by stacking made it look really good. but then again I like looking for those out of focus area that come with macro narrow focus. best with your new toys! |

great photo. I had to go off and read a little about the chiaroscuro technique. so we are saying that is natural light as the "spotlight"... the spot is nicely targeted. i like the macro look with just the one spot in focus where the light is. I expect the other areas to be out focus - so I don't think it needs to be stacked into more focus - stem looks in focus to me also. nice texture in the strawberry. have you used targeted flash to achieve these effects on subject [macro or not]. |

trying to capture a living thing is difficult [I tried following the bees last week and did not get 1 good shot]. if I don't look to closely they look almost in focus enough to appreciate the shot. the background is soft/out focus- all green background is good and that one edge of the leaf is in focus. you literally had one shot at this so good effort. |

love the flower Tom, agree that your 2nd fix , center of flower look much better. I vote for getting rid of more of the highlights. I love the way you have more flower above than below, not a perfectly centered view - asymmetrical... but the center is still there pulling me in. |

I agree with the tighter crop - I am pulled to the yellow and would like to see it more. higher crop might get rid of the white top corner. |

lovely subject. the water drop enhance the subject. blue is pretty. I would like to see if taking out some highlights on the top petal would decrease a little white and increase blue and even increase the vein detail. i see the right side petal as the most in focus. I feel like I want to rotate the flower a bit so that leaf is more toward me and in focus or I want the top petal a little more in focus. honestly I have been in the field and due to how the flower was positioned in nature I have been frustrated at getting just the right angle to have the focus where I want it - and with a tripod it is even harder - so I can understand why it is handheld. can I assume you did differnt apertures to see how much focus you could get. it is a beautiful subject! |
