the 2nd is great - a more traditional approach. I can see where you would want to work with capturing a butterfly with movement showing - it is hard following birds, bees, butterflies and having camera on the proper settings. |

Keith, I am not a stacker so no tips from me. I am happy to see that you did your first stack and put it up - even if not in focus - that will be me some day. you will get more tips now!!! |

Tom, I love the leaf, I love the detail of the leaf from a biological and aesthetic viewpoints. this is a reminder that most time we probably see the leaf as a whole but not the detail and texture that sustains life. simple and gorgeous.

yes 1:1. I do not really like this rock as presented. I kept looking for different angles - straight down on the top look flat, I was very unsettled on putting the vertical left side in the photo with the horizontal top but at least thought it gave it some dimension. problem was I was having a hard time making a "portrait" of individual crystal... this is just the wrong rock for me at least right now. |

Stuart this is wonderful. I absolutely love all the cilia like hairs - they show up so sharp!!! of course you also stacked! I keep wanting to see the 2 "dots" that are off the screen. I love a bit of asymettry/off center but I keep looking for the 2 missing dots. there is such great texture in the leaves also. |

Gloria, Welcome!!! it is a beautiful flower... i think the butterfly needs to be more in focus - at least enough to know it is a butterfly in order for it to not be distracting. my question always centers around "what is in focus" and can you live with the other areas being out of focus & does it make a pleasing photo. the flower is a very pleasing subject. carol suggested f8-16. next it seems like pushing iso up so you can bring shutter speed up is an option. |

fran, you are right on Carol's heels with dreamy and ethereal!!! love the flower and it is as smooth as butter [ha]. I have my focal point then I drift off into the dreamy depths, being pulled into the back of the photo. gorgeous!!! |

love it... it is the definatly dreamy and ethereal!!! your signature. I like the yellow you picked over the original yellow. I like orange too but the softer yellow does lend a little more to dreamy. the center is in focus and then it fades off to the edges, works nicely. I am always looking for that limited focal spot then seeing how the rest of the image fares.... this is beautiful. the asymmetry looks great for allow us to see the front petal and also see them fade into the vignette. speaking of vignette... I have not used them much.... I have heard that they should be very subtle... like Carol's. but are there any other comments people can share on vignettes to learn from. any do/don't for using them beyond subtle. |
