95 Jul 22 Comment I love orange but I do think it is a bit too strong here... overpowers the scene. I like tom's subtle shadow but Stuart maybe a compromise is a shadow less than your original and a little wider than toms.

95 Jul 22 Reply both styles work for me. the second flower in the photo also gives me a sense of reality - it was really THERE. it is like me not stacking right now.... I want to see how things look AS IS and with limited focus near 1:1. the other appeals for being able to manipulate and I do like those dark black backgrounds sometimes... so both work for me. 95 Jul 22 Comment yes tom that looks great. I admit I was in a hurry and just put the rock in the light box and got a shot. did not work on lighting.but I like the polarizer idea. probably do not have the right size for my polarizer on hand but can get one later.
agree... got sucked up in the red, white and blue holiday!!! if I had not I could have emphasized the crystals more.

95 Jul 22 Comment is anyone else seeing that Stuart's rock on the thumbnail has transformed into something else pink and blue... or is my computer wacky? Jul 11th
95 Jul 22 Reply for macro I am beginning to see that I like going in deep on an object and letting the viewer not quite understand what they are seeing... that is ok with me. the rock, the rainbow basket... which does go to the abstract.. another aside, looks like we all conspired this month.... you and me on ROCKS and the other 3 on white flowers ha ha!!! 95 Jul 22 Comment Tom, this is a gorgeous flower - I love most the fullness of tiny stems making a bouquet on such a tiny scale. it looks like you got great stacking , it looks in focus to me from front to back. I like that it has an asymmetrical lean and black bkgd works well. I agree that it looks well lit... it is soft and progresses from left to right toward the back where light falls off, so, the light is not overpowering the whole flower. Jul 11th
95 Jul 22 Comment Fran, this is gorgeous. the linear flow... this subject unstacked looks great. first flower is all that needs focus to hold my attention. wonderful out of focus background and to get all green so you have just green and white. this works well at low aperture. Jul 10th
95 Jul 22 Comment agree, Bill was very nice to me and we had 1-2 good chats when I first joined.

Carol this flower goes with one of your sweet spots.... the dreamy flowers, soft focus to sink into, relaxing to look at. the 4 petals appear to hold focus pretty well - I think that is all it needs to hold attention thus middle is ok out of focus. you know I am always looking for the unstacked macro focus and how to make a pleasing photo - this works for me!!! dark background is nice and the out of focus flower behind works - it follow a "line" and fits into the photo well.

95 Jul 22 Comment stuart, I love the rock, blue is gorgeous! whites swirls make great patterns. I don't like this shadow...maybe another version of the shadow could work - if you want to play with light. or in photoshop at least make the shadow a lighter gray. it just seems too dominant. and a different angle of light so you just get a smaller shadow width. I like the whole rock and would also like to see the crystals up close too... so you don't have to think about next months either... we can both come back with more on the rocks. :-) Jul 10th
95 Jul 22 Reply first I cheated and pumped up the red and blue for the holiday!!! well there is my next month photo... just the white rock - you just made it easy for me Carol :-) here is a quick look at the the other side of the rock - ISO400, 1/80, f11. blue and red/pink are not as vibrant. I adjusted exposure, shadow, clarity, texure a little... did not touch vibrance/saturation like in did in the featured rock. Jul 10th
95 Jul 22 Reply can't believe I forgot the basics... ISO400, 1/80, F18. so went pretty small.
