your photo and my photo are in the PSA Member showcase right now!!! I love the dog sled. I love that horse photo also [some other member]. what was your camera spec... dogs in nice focus and the snow is kicking up a bit. I was wondering about the horse photo also... his horse is in focus and lots dust swirling... wondering how he got both.

stuart I think it works that the head is on that end because it lets you focus on the WINGS. if head was looking at me I would be focusing on if the head was in focus. this orientation bypasses that. |

Bernie, I think it is a great subject. is it really purple or did you color it? works well with a dark background. when I sit back and don't over process it it looks great. when I get close and study each strand - [because that is what I am trying to learn in macro... focus points] - I find a focus here, then over there, over the whole image [on portion of a strand vs center] because which is what I expect. you are already at f16, on tripod so that sounds great. Bernie did you have a particular area you were trying to focus? I am wondering... focus in dead center [removing a few strands, a haircut] so really seeing more focus center then radiating out to a blurred/out focus edges or the total opposite of strand ends in focus and center blur. waiting to hear how the more experienced folks would handle this. |

Stuart this fly is wonderful. ALIVE or DEAD? [ I am assuming alive]. the wings are spectacular. the body and head looks really good. I would not expect the body to be in total focus. I am assuming you did not stack. f16 seems just right. great subject. what is the background? |

I love the "dreamy effect"/lens blur... and the almost monotone yellow - that is interesting. the most in focus are the 2 closest legs and some hair on the side of the body. sure if this were a dead bee I might want to see what it looked like with the head & fur on mid back in focus. I don't think the wing needs to be in focus - it looks natural fading to the back. without looking too close at focus, when I sit back and just let the whole photo hit me, if is very relaxing and calming to look at - which I assume is that blur lens you mentioned. |

Keith I like the blue center and pollen dots. flower looks pink to me so pink/blue is nice. but I do want to take the highlights out of half the petals & that green stripe. since it does not look like all the blue things are in focus might even do something like crop out half of the flower [highlights] and keep the side with lot of pollen dust. then the circle turns into half moon shape and come in close to the pollen. |

oh Tom I like this bug better than the last for sure. I like the head in this position. since he is dead it would be good to move that "arm in the face".forgetting the hot spots, it looks nice the way the light makes the "body armor" glow in the front near the face... golden glow. maybe if you rolled the body a little more toward us [legs start going backward] then the hot spot wouldn't show and we would see more body parts... maybe the back would glow also??? I like your subject!!! |
