sorry I am so late to the game. Love this archeological dig! I think the focus is on the shell lines and that is what is most important. I can tell that the depth of the rock around the line is in a different plane so I am not expecting the surrounding areas to be in focus. if you go up in focus f-stop even more that would be great just because I like the texture of the shell/rock so having it pop out would be great. I love the blue color in the background but I do think it is a bit overpowering for the subject. a nature color maybe ocean blue... maybe a photoshopped ocean background. sand would lean to mono tone but might find a way to make it work... seaweed green. |

I f5 and f11-16. it is not the same set up [linear vs diagonal] but can attach a f5 photo. neither of the photos are 1:1 more like 1:3 so focus is not looking so bad on either I think. |

Keith, beautiful subject and addition of water drops is great. I see the up/left. the rest of the orange is a beautiful color - just making it even would be great. can you repeat what you mean about lighting set up. do you mean natural light bouncing off screen? or did you bounce flash? |

Fran, great project - it has a very cool look!!! I attempting the water project when I first got my macro lens in 2020 and plan to return to it. so you have soap bubbles. is it a clear fluid - original color is pink due to colored magazines - but it only came out 1 color - I guess I was thinking it would be multiple colored at different places? can you mention how it is lit again. I notice that the "hot spot" seems to be on the right side of each bubble. I see the in focus bubbles to be in the center, narrow strip - that is all I would expect. My project was plastic/glass surface with individual dots of glycine and "picture" underneath. I found it challenging - focus and positioning of image that comes through the tiny mounds of glycine. I loved the project and want to continue. has anyone else done this kind of work? Fran if you continue with this project let me know we can swap notes. |

I love this specimen... vibrant colors. sitting on the leaf is a wonderful pose. the background is wonderful - lucky to get some complimentary greens to blur for the bkgd. best part for me is the areas of the eye and the "goose bumps specks" near eye and moving down the side and into the leg - they "pop" there. maybe little more highlight could come off nose and rear end? beautiful colors to look at. |

I love the repeating pattern of the segments of the body, up close, in your face with the macro lens. nice curvature etc. Looks more in focus on the right side - I can see the little dots - I don't expect to see more in focus without stacking - not sure if when you stack if you wanted the upper part more focused? is the head in the upper left? if you flip head to lower left and put head in focus then out focus could be trail off mid body. light seems to be shining a little bright on 2 upper segments. it is a great subject to photograph. p.s. so your wife will love that you are moving the bugs from one house to another!!! |

It is a gorgeous shell. it looks very in focus to me. the little sand/dust specks are great - you can see them all. I can see texture in the edges. colored patterns are very clear. it looks great. |
