thanks Tom. yes, I am a big bracketer. I feel like I am cheating when I bracket so much but I am also a studier.... up to now I am my own teacher-student... that why I wanted to get into dialogue groups. Glad to be in the group!

thanks Stuart. good discussion. I was at f8 trying to get at least moderate depth of field. "blurring effect of diffraction" not sure I know that one - point it out to me if you can. Stacking - being so new to macro... I read about it when I got my macro last year... but I am no where ready to do that technique... I want to see what the macro lens does on its own and how I can control before processing like that... it does sound difficult.

thanks Stuart you bring up some interesting point - repeating my comments in other photos... I am trying to learn the latitude I have with focus in macro. my impression is that only those items in the x,y planes of focus are in focus - z plane, like petals coming out to me are less in focus as I would expect them to be - acceptable or not that they are in focus?... trying to learn what is under my control. so I did not fixing anything in those petals. |

I see the 4 vertical petals in focus the most and a bit of a piece in the front. I would not expect the front ones to be in focus which I think is fine. I am trying to figure out how much latitude in focus there is. Overall, the flower is beautiful and background fades into softness!

beautiful yellow flower. I love the softness - feels like landing in a soft pillow! the front is where my gaze goes then trails off to the softness of the background. |

love the lines and gradual shift in brown tones. I see the focus strongest near the major rib but the lines that move away from that rib seem softer but still hold focus - that's nice. I am trying to learn how much latitude I have in focus. nice feather!

my eye goes to the blue and underneath which are especially in focus - so that to me is the plane of focus. good job on the petals they seem in focus [more than I would have guessed they all could be]. nice vibrant colors. |

moths and little buds are pretty but what I like even more is that you captured that 1 silky thread and the water droplet on top... the little things that make difference. |

I like the asymmetrical crop and it appears it eliminated some of the background unfocused petal and leaned to petals with some soft focus. but the star is the middle seeds. nice daisy! |
