I think the vertical works well for the subject. It has great detail in the sand showing the ripples. The many layers of shade and light cause the eye to flow through from bottom to top. Because it starts dropping focus about two thirds up, I think I would try it by cropping the top third, it works better for me with that crop. |

It took a while to get used to not being able to change the focal length, I have never used a prime lens before, but now that I am used to it, I love it.

I had never heard the name of colliery before, had to look it up. This image along with your description tell a very strong story. The equipment in the foreground really add impact to the story. The lines from the trees on the left and the buildings on the right help to draw the viewer right in where you want them from the equipment to the towers. A very strong composition. There are some dark halos around the towers that is a little distracting, they are not in the original, it may be the reason for not being accepted. Still a strong image. |

This really has some great repeating patterns. I like how the shading goes from darker on the left to the brighter on the right. A mesmerizing image that is very pleasing to view. I also like rotation used but also like a vertical with the dark at the bottom. I have no suggestions other than to print and hang it. |

I like the mess that it is, with the power lines, the fence and broken down roof. I would not take anything off at all as it all works to make the complete image and story. Maybe a little more contrast, looks a bit soft for the subject.
